catching up

last Wednesday was team retreat. every 6 months every team takes a day to try to build some team spirit. wed. was our day. It was an ok day, spent it the basement of a library on west side of Denver. the boss reviewed the rules and we colored in a cheery sign, talked about how to get thought the winter blues. at a cold lunch, that’s about it. It only annoyed me a little that the boss uses me as a positive example to the team, yet I wasn’t good enough to make team lead. go figure. and folks still come to me at work and ask me how do you do…. I have not been mean spirited enough to tell them to ask the team lead instead. its just irritating is all.

Saturday my goal was to get the housework done, as the house was trashed. those of you who work full time know what I mean, after 9 hours at work (8 hours of paid work is really 9. they don’t pay you for lunch breaks and the two 15 in breaks mandated by the law) and lets add in the drive to and from… so 10 hours of the day spent work related. and by time I get home, I’m done. and the house work isn’t.

but I got a good bit of it caught up Sat. my youngest helped, my middle child was working at the horses, trying to winterize the water situation there by building a new pipe system with the young man from where she works. I got the back lawn mowed, dishes done, laundry done (most of it) . oh and from 10 to 3 , candy and I sold her husbands car, red firebird he has had for several years and never driven. It is a few years short of being collectible. she decided not to drag it behind the u-haul trailer to SC. advertised it on Gregg’s list and had multiple people call about it. she drove the car to local grocery store parking lot, I followed in my car and watched with paperwork in my car. the first ones didn’t even look under the hood, it was a collage age man and his Aunt. they did the test drive and said they would think about it and call the next day. so candy called the next ones (said she just picked out names she liked, no order) they arrived in a big red truck a grandfather, father and younger man. he looked like he had a military hair cut. dad looked under it, in it, under the hood, pulled out oil sticks and what ever he could find, even yanked on the drivers door a few times. took the test drive and said they had other cars to look at yet. so called the next person. 4 folks arrived, teenager (about senior at high school) mom and dad and aunt. aunt was the car expert. (there are a lot of women these days who know a lot about cars and what makes them run!) two test drives on this group, and the young man fell in love with this car. bought it after auntie approved it. (does need new spark plugs and new tires) he apparently had saved up his lunch money for the car. must have been paid nicely for lunch, or he had saved for a few years! cause it was 2500. (which is what she would have gotten as a trade in – she already checked on that) car sold to a nice home. And after resetting her U-haul pricing to account for not hauling it, saved 500. and don’t have to drive a 22 ft u haul and drag car while looking for parking spaces in motels, parks etc.

one week left before the big trip.

I went to the drug store and got some Med’s, and they offered a flu shot, which I got. and now I have a sore throat. I don’t know if it is the shot or the fact that my last client on Friday was coughing in session. Just FYI, if you are sick STAY HOME, don’t share your germs with the working public.

I still need to get the admissions test on he truck, and new license on it before Tuesday. and need to drain the pipes in sprinkler system, it was only 50 yesterday and cold. will be freezing soon. I also need to get some winterizing stuff for the windows and the sliding door. — next weekend? that is the one where we pack up stuff for candy.

oh. Wendy took the 3 yr old fishing. cassidy has got in her head she wanted to go fishing, where that came from I don’t know. but she was very excited about it. so Wendy got her red pole (red is her favorite color) and Sunday they went fishing at local pond. no fish caught but all had fun.

and that’s all for now.

I used to hate those team-building events. That’s good about selling the car and not having to haul it.

I never caught many fish either. RYN: The promotions were Army policy at the time. One year for each LT rank, then 5 to 7 years to Major from Captain. I wasn’t in long enough for that. I had four years in grade, when I got out. Be well, my friend.

I am doing house work too.

The team building sounds a bit of a box ticking exercise. Fishing…isn’t about catching fish is it??? I thought it was in everything else that goes with it, meditation of the water, friendship, fresh air…

my youngest grandson does not like working on a team. he ends up being the one who does most of the work. and it frustrates him to no end. take care,
