Weekend
I was up early. And by early I mean 6:30. I often laugh at myself because for 6 years I was up at 5 to be at work by 7. But now, my normal sleep schedule gets me up between 9 and 10. My how things change. My job is my husband and kids, and my schedule is their schedule. With a husband who often doesn’t get home from work until after midnight, and an afternoon kindergartner who starts school at noon, we are doing pretty normal stuff.
However, my mind wouldn’t shut off this morning, Salem was up at 8:30 (why?) and Ian just kept shuffling this morning. As I type, Salem is in the bath tub and Ian is playing in his ever saucer. I wonder how much time that leaves me?
Anywho. Our weekend was good. For Scott and Salem it means something more, but for me it just means they get to join me and Ian for 2 days. Friday after I picked Salem up from school, we went and did shopping. All kinds of here and there stuff. Friday was low key and productive. Just the way I like it. Salem took Spring pictures at school, so I am excited to see those. Not sure we will buy any though, because I still have 10 photos to frame and hang from Newborn portraits to Easter pictures.
Saturday I went to the bridal shower and Scott and Salem went swimming. The shower was in my aunts condo community room, with the pool area attached so it was like we were together, but not. There really isn’t much to say about it. It was a bridal shower. I left after 2 hours while she was opening gifts because Ian was tired and fussy, and I really wanted to try and get to the bathing suit shop. Ian fell asleep immediately in the car and I met Scott and Salem at McDonalds while they finished their lunch. Afterwards we went to the bathing suit shop and I sorely underestimated the time it would take to pic something out. There were so many bathing suits and different cuts. I tried stuff on and Scott and I decided that I actually looked thinner in a bikini. The owner explained it was because the one piece suits make short girls like me look pretty boxy. I ended up with a top that fit perfectly and a pair of bottoms that were a little big, so they took them in for me while we waited. And the result is a bathing suit, that yes I wish I was skinnier, but I feel comfortable in and isn’t digging into me. We played it low key at home afterwards and Scott and I had some alone time after the kids went to bed.
Sunday morning we had no idea what we were going to do. We were supposed to go to the beach, but the forecast said that it was supposed to be in the 60’s and that just didn’t sound fun. I suggested that we go to The Orange Circle, one of the oldest neighborhoods in California, and after some deliberation we all decided it would be fun. And it really was! My dad used to take me there when I was a kid and I loved going into all the antique stores and just imagining where everything has come from. Salem pretty much followed in my foot steps. Scott had never been down there and walked around either so it was a good adventure for him too. There is a store there called Watson’s that also has a restaurant with like the best milk shakes ever, but we didn’t have one because we were too full from lunch. Our trip turned into a picture scavenger hunt of sorts to see who could find the best Instagram picture from the stores. I think Scott won. On the way home we stopped at the movie theater and saw The Three Stooges. I honestly didn’t care if I saw it, so it wasn’t entirely bad that Ian only wanted to watch the first half hour of the movie and kept me in the lobby for the rest. The manager came over and told me that they would give me a movie credit since I didn’t get to watch the movie and I gladly accepted their offer. Scott and Salem loved the movie thankfully. We came and relaxed afterwards. I made dinner and we watched Bill Engvall stand up on Netflix before bed. If you have never watched any of his stand up, I recommend doing it. He is hilarious and keeps it clean! I love laughing with my husband.
And this morning is gloomy and cold, which I mostly appreciate, but I feel sad this morning. It could be the weather, or the being awake for so long by myself. I wish I knew and understood the triggers.
Today there is laundry in my future, so here I go.
I have tons of laundry in my future….do mine too!!

Pretty nice that they took care of your swimsuit for you, but too bad the weather took a turn to the colder. I bet you won’t have to wait long for the heat though. I’ve been to several bridal and baby showers…I get what you mean by they are what they are. But I’ve enjoyed them as long as it wasn’t too long… Like your new pic…and it was sooooooooooo nice seeing you visit again. Put a smile on my face… 🙂
