It’s Been Difficult the Last 2 Days
Yesterday was a complete and total fail. It was Salem’s laundry day. It’s all washed, but still sitting in hampers. No need to explain further. Ian was as crabby as can be. I think his two upper middle teeth will be the death of me. And then some where around 8:30 last night Salem jumped on the crabby train with Ian and was crying over everything. I secretly knew she was getting sick, but prayed she was just tired. No such luck.
After a fitful sleep with Ian, Salem came in my room at 7:30 and said she was ready to get up. That is completely unheard of for her. Tuesday she does have early start, but her body doesn’t know that. I asked her to lay in bed with us to see if she would fall back to sleep, which she did, but she neither looked or felt sick. I got her up at 8:15 and took her downstairs for breakfast. She whispered behind my back to my mom that her muffin was making her throat hurt. After investigation on my behalf, she told me her throat starting hurting the night before, and that she was freezing under her blanket. I looked at her throat and saw fiery red and swollen tonsils. Thermometer read 100.9. Needless to say I kept her home from school. When Scott woke up I had him check her throat and he was able to spot white puss. We checked her temperature again, and she was peaking at 101.9. So she saw the doctor in the afternoon and she confirmed that Salem has strep throat and started antibiotics.
My poor girl. I remember how painful it is. I can hardly get her to eat anything and she cries when she has to take her medicine because it makes her gag. This is now the third time in 2012 that she has been sick. I don’t know why she gets it so bad. The doctor said she can’t go back to school until 24 hours after her fever breaks so she doesn’t get the other kids sick. At the rate she is going she probably won’t be back to school until Friday, if at all this week. She feel asleep at about 7 and I was hoping she would go the whole night, but she woke up not too long ago and is downstairs eating some princess shapes chicken noodle soup. Her temperature is now 102.3. The doctor also said to make sure she stays away from her brother.
And that is where the real challenge of the day is because he is even crabbier with pain today than he was yesterday, and wants nothing to do with sleep unless I am laying next to him or holding him. And then when he is awake, he is pinching me and slapping my chest to nurse. And he is refusing food today too. My arms are literally covered in little Ian sized finger tip bruises. And the real kicker? Any time I tell him no, he just laughs. He was biting while nursing and when I told him no then he laughed too. Finally I just started taking him off every time he did it and not letting him back until he calmed down and he got the hint that nursing and biting don’t go together.
So, I can’t comfort them both at the same time because she can’t be near him which is honestly the most frustrating thing. Please pray for my princess that she gets better fast, and for my little stud that his pain gets alleviated as well. And while you are at it pray that I keep myself together until all of this over.
This is what the kids are looking like these days.
I love this picture. I love when she cuddles him.
parenting has it’s challenging moments for sure. but there is always a rainbow after the storm, and then you really appreciate the easier moments. hope everyone feels better soon.
