Transgender Day of Remembrance

Today, Nov. 20, is the Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we remember the transgender folks who have lost their lives as a result of trans-hatred and violence.

Here is the page from the Human Rights Campaign.

And here’s the Transgender DOR page.

You may think that such violence is a thing of the past, but we’ve had 2 trans folk killed in recent months.  One was, to my mind, an assassination because she was beat up by the police, it was taped, they got in trouble, and then she was killed execution style a few days later.  You put it together.

I feel a very strong sense of duty and debt to all of these people, innumberable ones who have suffered and died so that my life can be easy and my transition smoother and more socially acceptable.  The only thing I can do is pass it forward.

Oh man, I totally forgot about this because I was too worried about all the rubbish in MY life. R.I.P to those who’ve died.
