Somebody let the Pope out again…

Okay, he’s at it again, boys and girls, and bois and girlz and .. the list gets too long.

The Pope says that condom use actually increased the spread of HIV/AIDS.  He’s still on that "celibacy is the only answer" kick.

It’s reported in the Washington Post, BBC News, MSNBC, the Toronto Star, and France’s Le Monde.  I got tired of looking everywhere else – that’s 4 countries, 2 continents and 2 languages.

BTW, "condom" in french is apparently "préservatif".     You can make up your own punch line for that one, I ain’t touchin’ it.  Har har.

Bush and Benoit are apparently 2 peas in a pod – facts aren’t facts if they go against your moral beliefs.  Facts should conform to what you want to believe, no more, no less.

I was raised Catholic, left the Church when I was like 15.  Tried going back, didn’t work for long.  If we have any Catholic readers out there, I’d be interested in hearing their opinions on this guy.

I for one am not a big fan, and it seems he may drive away any thinking followers and end up with only his own radical fringe.  Like Rush Limbaugh.

cheers all

-Jude

I was raised Catholic – Catholic school for 8 years and the whole nine – although my church wasn’t all crazy. I think the current Pope is a jackass. I cringed when he was put in. I haven’t been a practicing Catholic in, oh..*counts* 16 years or better. Anyways – you are probably wondering who the heck I am – at some point, a while ago you had left me a note and I had added you to read you butdidn’t get a chance to so I’ve read some of the latest ones and noted when I could – I don’t write much anymore so no worries about noting back – I think you are on an exciting journey and I am glad to be able to read and follow. :o)

As an ex Catholic, all I can say is… whut? Honestly, I don’t get it. I don’t understand why the Catholics stick to this ancient dogma when it’s hopelessly outdated and in fact harming millions of people everyday. *shakes head*.

Oh, and RYN: Yeah, I know, it’s pointless worrying about them when there’s more important stuff to worry about (see above, for instance). It’s this idea that gamers are dumb that gets me riled. Boo.

Okay, he’s not claiming that using a condom will make having sex with someone more dangerous than not, he’s saying that encouraging condom use will encourage behavior that will lead to getting the disease. I don’t really see why people are shocked that the RC church is preaching what it believes. If people were more responsible about sex than they are, the problem would be reduced- we wouldn’t

(cont) be seeing women infected by their husbands and boyfriends like they are now. I don’t agree that it’s a viable solution, and I think it’s more realistic to hope that people will start using condoms more often than that people will start caring enough about their loved ones to 1 get tested and 2 NOT HAVE SEX. How could you put someone at that risk? It’s barbaric. Especially when so many men

(cont) refuse to use the damn condoms. It’s not the Church that deserves condemnation here- they’re just keeping their heads in the clouds and preaching what they hold as sacred truth (sanctity of sex in marriage, no barrier between people, etc.) Sorry for the rant, this just makes me angry. Blaming a religious group ain’t gonna help, and distracts from the real problem.

Catholics have somehow accepted evolution which is, even to a staunch evolutionist, pretty out-there as an idea. Yet they can’t accept something that’s happening NOW and VISIBLY in our world? Not to mention on the human timescale? I don’t effing get it. This is probably why I don’t need their gawd.

abstinence?! spoken like a guy who has NEVER gotten laid. 12 years in catholic school – the horror.

Celibacy is more effective in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS than condoms. 100% effective, in point of fact. The breakage rate for condoms is two out of 100. So if celibacy isn’t the method of choice, a condom is definitely the next best thing!

March 17, 2009

LMAO yes condoms are designed to keep sperm out and let aids in…HA HA HA HA …still laughing at that one

March 18, 2009

Weren’t condoms called “French letters” at one point in time? This pope wants to share the celibacy misery, no?

March 18, 2009

iÂ’m tired of haring that condoms do more harm then good. as someone whoÂ’s been using them for the past few years, i think they are great.

RYN: What is “Bilerico”?? Ya, I want to write more about this issue too because it’s just not right and I’ve experienced it in the lesbian comunity and now the TG community. I just ignore them both but it annoys me because there isn’t some place I can go for support where I can be myself without everyone else’s issues getting in my way of my being who I am. Bleh. Oh ya- and of course “you’re in”. LOL.

The popal thing… it disgusts me. When a friend says they were raised Catholic, I say, “I’m sorry”. I heard about that latest thing with condoms. It’s a fact- times change, people evolve, popular thinking changes and those who don’t change and stay stuck in old beliefs will die out. The numbers of people who call themselves Catholic are going down- along with most organized religions.IMO- a sign that humanity, in general, are evolving and thinking for themselves instead of being blind followers, a herd of sheep. This is a gooood thing.

ryn: Most serious brain injuries happen at relatively low speeds. I agree an instructor should have suggested a helmet, but ultimately I think an adult is responsible for their own welfare, and shouldn’t have to be told to take precautions. Just like responsible adults put on their seat belt in a car, they should also know enough when to protect themselves in other areas. I’d like to believe we haven’t yet reached the stage where common sense precautions don’t have to be legislated.

Catholics rub me the wrong way. I lost my job at a crisis pregnancy center in December because EVERYONE was Catholic (Exec. Director, my co-workers, the Board members and volunteers) except for me and – here’s the shocker – I made it very clear that my priority was our clients and their babies, not any religious or political agenda. I got a stellar annual review and BAM – two weeks later, I’m without a job. It was time to go (I got screamed at by a volunteer who told me I was going to Hell for voting for Obama, who was obviously the next Hitler), but I was good at my job and it gave me an identity. Now I’m without work in Michigan and finding a job is so hard. Anyway, back to Catholics… Sorry, but a mass majority of them (no pun intended) are all crazy nut jobs would wouldn’t know a fact if it hopped in their wine glass and bit them. Take care

What do you mean by “can’t accept” things that are happening now? That doesn’t make any sense. He’s well aware of the way people behave, the church’s “job” is to get them to change their ways. Accepting hasn’t anything to do with it. I find the offhand contempt in some of these notes to be appalling. Speaking as an ex-Catholic.
