Report from Southern Comfort (pics!)
no, not the beverage.. ("hey, there’s a beverage here!")
Okay, Southern Comfort Conference is one of the big annual transgender conferences in the US. Atlanta. Luckily, the floods were actually in a southern part of the city, and our conference was at a big hotel in the northern part.
so, we drove down on tuesday (drove all day), got there near midnite. Wednesday we just hung out, shopped, goofed off. The conference was Thurs-Sat, with lots of partying and keeping those bar chairs warm.
So, here are some pics…
I think this is a bunch of us waiting to go out to eat on Wed. nite, before the conference really started.
This is Brooke and Andrea. We found out the week before SCC that Brooke was awarded an Emmy (yes, THOSE Emmys!) for her work on lighting design for the CNN Election Center set. She is the first out transgender woman to win an Emmy. That’s her lovely spouse, Andrea, next to her, who is on the board of IFGE.
Mango the Monkey, ruler of all he surveys.
IFGE had a reception one evening…
Here is our friend Sharon talking to a man in a kilt. Or most of a kilt. I believe he was one of the trans-men who were at the conference – there was good representation from the transmen there. Quite cool actually
The conference theme was "Heroes Among Us", and they had a costume competition. Here are our friends Jenny & Paula.
Jenny (on the left) won 1st Prize!!! She won a complete registration for next year (which is like $300 or so). You go Girl!! Warning: do not compete against Jenny in costumes. She will wipe the floor with you. And smile while she does it. 😉
The whole metro DC crew + friends:
And yes, tht’s yours truly down in front.
And last, but definitely not least… my lovely wife, in the dress we got married in
Well, that’s it. Now we start the fevered preparations for our TGEA Holiday Gala (Dec 5).
I have to come back when I can see the pics better. Even though the pics are small on the blackberry I did spot you right away. You look awesome and so happy. I’m really happy for you. It may have taken you a while to get here but you’ve done it. Sweetie is just that – she’s such a sweetheart and you are both so lucky to have found each other. *Hugs*

ryn: Thanks for the links! We’re actually in Washington state though…so finding events that are more on this side of the map would probably be better for us. It’s just that my sweety’s heard of Southern Comfort and some of the forums s/he’s on have mentioned how we must go. lol!!
