Just Getting thru everything & next Tuesday

It’s a busy busy weekend.

First, 2 of our very good friends (who had to go up to Mass. to get married last month) had their wedding reception/Halloween party last nite, and Sweety and I somehow managed to get ourselves on the hook for both decorating and half the food.  I fixed chili, a taco bar and two big trays of wings (probably like 40 wings total, bbq’ed).  Oh, and the veggie tray and Sweety’s homemade hummus.   Party went well, we didn’t have enough vegetarian things on the table – the other lady helping with food also brought meat-laden dishes.  So much for letting someone else be in charge.

We had our monthly planning meeting for our trans conference here at the house this morning – we couldn’t get our regular room at the public library – it was booked.  We’re running really late (IMHO) on getting the registration website open and publicized – we should have had it up weeks ago.  Plus, there was a falling out between the sponsoring organization (IFGE – the good guys) and the conference facilitator (Christine – the bad guys) – now we find out that Christine has booked our old hotel in Philly in April – which is where and when IFGE used to hold the conference, and is marketing her conference with intentionally confusing titles so that a lot of folks are confusing her conference with ours.  So the longer we wait, the worse the confusion is going to be.  Our fearless leader can sometimes be incredibly slow about things, cause she doesn’t delegate responsibility well and must be in control.  Sigh.  We might have made some progress today.

We have our monthly support group tonite.  Sweety and I are going, but not staying late, that’s for sure.

Oh, and my friend’s parents, the ones I’m cooking for, were at the party last nite (J is their daughter), and they offered me a big raise to have "more variety".  what this means is that, up to now, I’ve been sending them 4 servings each of 2 dishes — 8 dinners in all, but only 2 diffrent dishes.  I think they want 2 servings each of 4 dishes, which is a lot more work.  Gotta figure out how to do that, without killing myself on prep time each weekend.  It’s good experience, I’m getting chances to cook all sorts of things I’ve been meaning to get better at (like pot roast, I’m finally learning how to make a decent pot roast).  and I can cook more things than I could otherwise without having extra mouths to help consume, so that’s kinda interesting.  but I don’t want it to become "a job" and stop being fun.  we’ll have to see.

and waiting for Tuesday too.  We’re here in Virginia, and they keep talking about us as one of the key states this year.  And I keep worrying that we’ll be the one with the election fraud that gives the whole ball of wax to McCain like Florida and Ohio did for Bush in the last 2 elections.  We’re expecting a huge turnout here, we don’t have early voting like GA or FL do, So we’re expecting really long lines.  Bring a book.  Work scheduled an all day meeting that I’m supposed to be at – 9 am to 4 pm – for that day.  well, i’m voting first then going to the meeting. Tough noogies if I’m late – this is more important. It’s not really my meeting anyway, I’ll just be a spectator.

I guess I’m worrying about things I can’t control.

take care everyone

We’re something of a tossup state, too. I think we haven’t been talked about as much as some of the other states because we’re usually pretty consistent. But it’ll be a close one here this time around.

I love that you’re married to your soulmate. You are very lucky.

Actually pot roast was a dish that took me a long time to master. The simple things sometimes do.
