Good News from the Courts!!

Hey there,

Not sure how many of you knew about the case of the transsexual who was discriminated against by the Library of Congress.

He is ex-military, and, as a guy, interviewed for an intelligence position with Library of Congress.  The reception was enthusiastic, they loved him, then, while settling details of the position, David Schroer says "and I’m planning on transitioning and beginning the job as Diane".

The offer of employment was rescinded by the LoC.  Diane sued, and today, won!!! Yahoo!!!

article in today’s Washington Post – this is hot off the presses, the ruling was handed down earlier today

Transsexual wins federal discrimination lawsuit

According to the ruling, discriminating because someone is trans is equivalent to sex discrimination.  This goes a long long way towards equal rights.

Onward!  😉

I keep wondering if the Equal Rights Amendment would pass if it came up again. Then I look at all the blue states in Jesusland and I know it wouldn’t have a prayer. Has the judge in this case gotten any death threats yet? erm, I mean “Yahooo!” It is good news, but it will be better news when applying the law equally is not considered “judicial activism” just because it offends somebody’s phony morality.

Very Good News.

That is good news. The pessimist in me says she will get harassed in overt and subtle ways though. Having been a military spouse for 22 years, I have seen and heard a lot. It’s very sad.

sweet! every now and then the good guys win!

Hi, we have a few diarists in common, but I was atracted by the LOC connection – I’m a librarian. I hope all goes wlel, but really! The library world id FULL of folks of all kinds … got me baffled why they’d find a trannie a challenge. Geeez! I went through library school with a chap who became Jan … the process, you’d think, would be enough to toughen anyone – a fine employee would result, I’d say.

I randomly found you while browsing OD. I’m glad to hear the good news. I’m always impressed just to find someone who’s openly living as trans, and to hear that someone’s willing to step up like this is always heartening.

That’s awesome, as always thanks for keeping us all (especially me) updated. I always feel like I’ve learned something from reading your entries. Love to you & Sweetie,
