Book Review: The Lace Reader
I just finished The Lace Reader, by Brunonia Barry
This is a fantastic book. It’s set in recent New England, where there is a group of women (fictional), who make lace that they then use to read fortunes, or see the futures, of folks in their family, friends, clients. The key person is the daughter of one of these ladies, who is somewhat fighting her own destiny, having had all sorts of problems growing up, and comes back home and helps investigate the suspicious death of her aunt (also a lace reader).
The book is wonderfully written, a fascinating concept, the characters are full and believable, and I had a hard time putting it down. It is not just fantasy or sci fi, the lace reader parts are there, but it’s more about the young lady, Towner, and her struggles.
A fascinating book, I can really recommend it.
