Answers to Questions!

Here you go, folks.

Answers to public questions (answers to private questions via private notes or personal emails).

Q:  What’s your sign?
A:
Scorpio.  Same as Sweety.  In fact, our birthday is on the same day (different years, but same day).

Q:  When did you know you were trans? Was it something you just always knew, or did it become evident later on?
A:
I knew I wanted to be a girl when I was like 9 or 10 years old.  It wasn’t until I was around 16 that I even heard the word “transsexual”.  I almost pursued transitioning in the early 80’s, but a really really lousy therapist talked me out of it.  That led to my first marriage.  I almost transitioned again in the mid 90’s, which led to the end of my first marriage.
I remember one time when I was about 4 or 5, I was telling my mom about another little girl at kindergarden, and said “this other little girl…”, and she corrected me that I was a boy and that wasn’t proper grammar.  I remember being upset at that, it stuck with me.  I think it was kind of an unconscious wish until I was about 9 or 10 when I realized it full force, and it’s been with me pretty much ever since.

Q:  Do you believe in forever?
A:
Ah, interesting.  And what do we mean by “forever”?  Warning, long answer coming up.
Part 1:  I believe in reincarnation. Not where we come back as a kitty cat, but we keep coming back, as humans, working on becoming better people – working towards enlightenment, if you will.  And, there’s an idea I picked up awhile back, that actually, our souls travel through these incarnations in groups – a bunch of friends, as it were.  One life, you may be married to this other soul, another life, you may be parent-child, and another you’re best friends.  The group tries to help each other in different ways during the different incarnations – every trip around, we each need to learn something to help us along.  So, if re-incarnation means I believe in forever, then yes, I do.

Part 2:  Do I believe in heaven and hell, and “God”?   No, not really.  I don’t believe in a Supreme Being that has emotions and goals and wants and needs.  To me, that’s trying to impose human issues on something completely non-human, and isn’t valid.  It’s more of a reflection of what we want, not what really is.  Instead, what do I believe in?  More like Nature, or Gaia, I suppose.  Like, polluting and such doesn’t piss God off, more than it’s basically against Nature.  Nature is a terribly complex natural system, and things eventually happen in response to pollution.  Things that are bad for us (the polluters).  It doesn’t mean that Nature was pissed off, or took revenge, it’s just what happens.  If you throw a bowling ball into the air, and stand under it when it comes down, it hurts.  The bowling ball has no feelings, emotions, or intentions in the matter.

Heaven and Hell:  Tied in with my belief in reincarnation, I came to this idea awhile back:  When you die, or finish each incarnation, your soul goes off for a while.  I believe that’s an almost unimaginably different a reality from this one.  Let’s say that, in this time, you actually realize the full impact of your actions during your past incarnation.  Every impact:  when you cut someone off in traffic, and they had a crappy day and ended up in their own accident and got killed because you pissed them off, you realize it.  When you did something nice for someone, you now know how good that really made them feel.  When you fed a hungry child, and that child remembered that, and went on to become a doctor, you realize, feel, all that good.  All the complex, amazing impacts of all your actions becomes apparent to you.  The full weight of all your actions, for good or for bad.  Now, if you lead a terrible, evil life, that would be essentially overwhelming.  Likewise, a wonderfully good life could be overwhelming.   That, to me, would be heaven or hell.  We’re not judged by anything or anyone external to us and sentenced, we judge ourselves.
So, yes, again, I believe in forever.  My beliefs in reincarnation bring up all sorts of interesting discussions about “what lessons is my soul learning by transitioning in this life?”  What lessons is your soul learning in your current incarnation?  😉

Q:  Do you mix up food on your plate or are you one of those anal retentive people who keeps all of their food separate and freaks out of any of it touches something else?
A:
I don’t really work at keeping things separate.  Especially near the end of the meal, things taste great all mixed together.

Q:  My question to you is have you? (original question from me to her: have you ever been attracted to another woman?)
A:
Oh, I’ve always liked girls.  Which, since to most folks I was a boy, was great.  But oddly, I always felt like I should be a lesbian.  Odd, eh?  Now, transitioning from male to female, I’m feeling like I’m where I should be.   And, in the sense of full answers, yeah, I’ve been attracted by guys a couple of times, but I’ve never done anything.  Never even kissed another guy.  And frankly, the idea of a relationship with a guy is like, ewww.

I enjoyed reading these answers and found myself nodding along with one in particular, Part 1, because it echoes my beliefs so well.

Yay for Scorpios! Is it too late to ask a question? I hadn’t thought of one yet. David’s always thought of himself as a gay man. Which to most people begs the question “why transition?” He certainly thought that it was a lost cause if he couldn’t find a way to be straight. Thankfully, most people in the community have realized that 1. gay men aren’t men who want to be women and 2. that gender and sexuality aren’t the same thing. I like your ideas about reincarnation and heaven and hell, though they are quite different from my own. lots of hugs, John

I really like your heaven/hell view. And I’m totally with you on reincarnation.

This is sooooo great – our beliefs in reincarnation are on target with one another! I do, however believe in a Supreme Being; one that is pure spirit and is in all of nature and indwells each one of us, as in our ‘highest self’. I have written a novel (although currently unpublished), with Reincarnation as its central theme.
