This makes me cry. If this site would let me post the video I would. Say no to SB861. Dont let the government KILL this breed. Maybe we should ban all HUMANS who make the dogs that way. Who abuse them, and treat them badly.
"Rep. Wesselhoft said the proposed bill will also include provisions designed to bring about an eventual ban of pit bull dogs in the state. The grandfather clause contained in the bill would allow for the continuing existence of pit bulls currently in Oklahoma. However, pit bull owners would have to have the dogs spayed or neutered, and the animals would need regular rabies shots. In addition, a pit bull owner would have to be age 21 or older and would be required to have a $100,000 liability insurance policy on every pit bull. Also, each pit bull would have to be tattooed or otherwise marked when it is registered with the state. Owners would not be able to sell or transfer the dogs to other individuals in Oklahoma, excluding family members. And a person living in Oklahoma will not be able to bring in a new pit bull from out of state. After those pit bulls that are allowed to remain in Oklahoma under the grandfather clause of the proposed bill die of old age, Wesselhoft said there should be very few pit bulls remaining in the state, if any."

That bill sounds like a load of crap. It’s not the breed that’s particuarly mean, it’s people breeding them and making them this way. It’s sad actually. Which then leads to another point, if they can supposedly pass this ban on pit bulls what about other “visious” dogs. Ya know…

Those pictures break my heart! (And they’re supposed to, sez my Inner Cynic.) This week a ten-year-old boy was bitten by a pit bull in my town. That’s what the news coverage says but they can’t find the stray dog anywhere. It probably wasn’t even a pit bull. Often, people will claim that was the breed when they don’t really know. Up with pits! Down with irresponsible pet owners!

All of that is ridiculous, especially the part where you can’t transfer the dog to anyone other than family members. So what if you can’t keep the dog anymore and you HAVE no family in the state, or just no family that will/can take the dog??

i actually support your cause, but to be honest, the captions on those hundreds of pictures are just cheesy and crass. You should be trying to win people over by better means than appealing to the Awwww factor. Maybe the pic with the kitten without a caption might have been good… seriously, this just comes across as annoying and infantile.

That bill is over stepping the bounds of power. No breed should be banned outright. Let those who own dogs that are out of control or use them for illegal activities be responsible for their actions. Even with a ban, criminals will still own pit bulls and fight them, it is law abiding citizens who will suffer without the right to own a perfectly nice dog.
