Remembering smiles

I keep having flashbacks of spending time with the grandkids over the holidays and they make me smile.

I have a BEA-U-TIFUL silver chain with two hearts on it, the smaller one dangling from the other.  Kim said that they were Christmas shopping and she asked Chandler what he wanted to get for me.  She expected a shrug and an "i don’t know", but instead, he immediately said, "A heart necklace."  We don’t have a clue where this 7 year old that i’ve recently reconnected with came up with that or why.  He barely remembers me being in his life before.   But…i gotta wonder…if somewhere wayyyyyy in the back of his mind, he remembered that i love anything with hearts on it…

Chant also did the wrapping of my necklace–and used LOTS of tape to make sure it wouldn’t come open easily.  I didn’t know the story behind the necklace at the time, but as soon as i opened it and squealed with joy, he was right beside me with his easy smile, telling me that the biggest heart was him and the smaller one was Bailey.  Awwwwwwww!!!!  Ok, so that memory brings tears to my eyes…but i’m still smiling!!!

I watched Bailey, 3 1/2, open her presents.  She had everything for a princess (because she IS one, just ask her!) from princess dolls to a princess dress to a little princess fold out couch.  When she opened the nerf gun that we’d gotten for each one of the grandkids, it wasn’t "princess-ly" and she said, "That not mine."  But she was out shooting with the boys not long after that!

Papa j was sitting across the noisy room when she opened her fairy princess Barbie.  She was soooo excited to show it to me and her mama.  I asked, "Did you tell Papa ‘thank you’?".  She immediately caught his eye and instead of yelling at him across the room, told me, "Him smiled at me wif his teef."  What a silly girl!!

Her and i sat at the computer here last Saturday evening and she whizzed through a couple of games (amazing the computer skills this kid has at such a young age!).  She was making me laugh, just being herself, and i told her, "You’re silly!"  With a straight face, she answered, "I know.  I funny.".

What do ya do with a kid like that??!

When she finished playing at the computer, she got up, turned it off, and said, "What i ‘posed to do now?  I got no toys."  So, her and i spent the next little bit with me listening to her imagination at work.  She’s on a kick about "When i was a wittle baby, in my crib…".

Apparently, during that time in her life, many things happened in her little imagination.  One of them was that she had a little kitty "only this big" *she shows me kitten size with her little hands*.  It was brown and it’s name was Sarah.  And it ate up some of her toys and it ran away.  I told her, "I hate it when that happens!"  She said, "Yeah,…" and continued on with some other fantasy.

I’d have to say they’re the best medicine ever, no matter how much they wear me out!!!

Smart, funny little girl. Thanks for telling us about her. It is a wonder how in tune they are to video and buttons and cause and effect.
