The Worst of Two Evils

The political din. It’s everywhere. The first of the presidential debates draws closer and my interest is piqued. This is the first presidential election I am old enough to vote in. Though living in New York, my vote may not mean as much as in Florida. Since 1988, New York has always gone Democratic in Presidential elections. So does it really matter if I vote?

If you care, you should vote. Some people don’t get a damn about the government and could care less who is President. But if you are one of those people who complain all day long about how messed up the government is, go vote. If you do nothing else, you should vote. If you don’t even vote, what good are you doing anyone – including yourself?

But I’m guessing that New York will go Democrat, cause we always do. How else do you think Hilary Clinton become Senator? She ran on the Democrat ticket. I work in a mostly Republican law office. I went to school with kids who had a lot of Republican ideals. So what will my vote be?

I’m not sure yet. I wish I could personally sit down with both candidates and ask them whatever I want. I’d ask what they planned to do about the war in Iraq. If they said they were staying in Iraq, I’d ask why. What are we fighting in Iraq? In WWII we were fighting Hitler and his takeover. Now we are fighting who? Terrorism? I’m sad to say it is a war that will never be won. Terrorism is not a person, or an invasion. Terror is an idea, a mind game. It feeds violence and cannot be fought with guns and force. So why are we in Iraq, and what do you plan to do about it?

There are other questions I’d love to ask the candidates, but I will not be able to. Even if I could ask them anything, how do I know they will answer truthfully? Politicians also have this wonderful way of giving vague answers.

I will make America’s homefront more protected. Ok, how? I will improve the security. Yeah I got that. How? We will have heightened security and be better protected. Alright, whatever.

I get tired of the runaround answers they seem to give. I know most of tonight will still be these runaround answers with vague ideas. But I am looking forward to the debate and seeing how moronic each candidate can be.

So who gets my vote? I don’t know yet. I don’t like a lot of what Bush has done and said in the past four years. This war is pointless and I don’t want it to continue. But I have no assurances from Kerry that he will pull us out. I half feel that if Bush got us into this war, he should get us out. But I don’t think he will be able to get us out. On the other hand, I don’t really like what I’ve heard from Kerry. He doesn’t seem to be keen on pulling America out of the war.

Bush vs. Kerry…..Which is the worst of two evils?
