It’s Your Day

I’m too tired to figure out something to write.  But I already missed yesterday’s post cause I was too exhausted.  So I’m doing the NoJoMo challenge.  My day, from start to finish – or at least this moment.

I woke up to hear Cale whining somewhere outside my room.  Then my roommate was telling her to be quiet, and I heard her leave.  I finally got out of bed with just about enough time to get dressed and get to my PT appointment.  I felt like I was still half asleep.  The PT only lasted about an hour, which was nice.  I have one more appointment tomorrow and then we decide if I keep going, or just do things on my own.  I like the putty, but will probably have to go buy my own or make some.  I would prefer to buy it if possible.  Just make my life easier.

I came home and finally got some coffee and breakfast.  I worked on church music prep for a bit.  I made some English horns reeds, which were pretty good.  I used one to practice for about forty-five minutes, before packing up my stuff and pouring the last cup of coffee.  I headed onto campus, thirty minutes early for my class.  So I sat in my car, drinking my coffee and talking with my dad.  We talked about possible recital dates, because my teacher screwed me over.

How, you ask?  Last week on Wednesday I had my oboe lesson.  I had my recital request form all filled out.  All I needed was for Doc to sign it.  I showed it to her, and she said that was fine.  It wasn’t until Thursday morning, did I realize she never signed it!  She’s not in school on Thursdays, so I had to wait until Friday to get her signature and hand it in.  It was only a day, so I figured I would be okay.  Except, within that day, someone else placed a request.  I got an email from the scheduler saying that I was just a day too late.  She goes by professor signatures, so if Doc had signed it Weds, I would have gotten my date!  I was pretty mad.

Anyways – I might still get my date, but I need other options in case it doesn’t work out.  So I talked to Dad for a bit about that.  We also discussed my grandmother, his mother.  I had sent her a handwritten card about my trip to GR and my decision to attend seminary.  Today I got an email saying it was wonderful to get a card and all, but she already knew about my trip!  I had tried so hard to keep it all under wraps.  The family members who I did tell, I asked to keep quiet and I’m positive they did.  There’s another option.  That someone at the seminary somehow knew who I was and knew who my grandmother was and passed the word along.  It’s a small world after all.  Its a small world after all.  Okay, whatever.  I think she was tickled to get a handwritten card, and grateful that I did tell her.  But she also mentioned that she had few thoughts on the matter, which we will discuss when she’s here at Christmas.  Great.  Can’t wait.

Wind Symphony rehearsal went really well.  I think tomorrow’s concert is going to be excellent.  Which is exciting, because this band has come really far.  Of course, the director of bands was only there for the last half hour or so.  I wished she had been there whole time because I really think she would have helped put even more polish on the group.  Oh well.

On Wednesdays, I have my oboe lesson an hour after band ends.  Rather than go home for basically a half hour, before going back to campus, I usually get some snack and sit outside my professor’s door until my time.  Its cool, and relatively quiet.  I can lie on the floor and stretch my back out.  Sometimes I bring a notebook to write, or study.  But not always.  My lesson went well, and then Chelsea, one of the oboists in my section, came back to my apartment.  We are both House and Fringe fanatics, but she had to miss last night’s episode.  So I taped it and we watched it together tonight.  Soooo good!  We were screaming at the TV by the end of House.  I also made us lasagna for dinner.

Funny story about that.  I had bought ricotta cheese a bit ago, but when the weather turned warm, didn’t really want to use it.  So I stuck it in the freezer.  Forgot to take it out this morning.  So I had a frozen, plastic container of ricotta cheese.  I ended up using kitchen shears to cut back some of the top of the container.  I stuck the whole thing in some warm water on the stove, to loosen it up.  Eventually I was able to push the block out of the container.  Except it was still frozen.  I started using a knife to basically grate the cheese apart.  Then remembered I actually owned a cheese grater and used that instead.  Chelsea was cracking up the whole time.  But that lasagna was damn good!

We only had time to watch House before we had to run back to campus for our dress rehearsal.  It wasn’t awful, but it was certainly nowhere near our best.  Not even close to a honorable mention.  Hard work and focus is a large part of being a good musician.  But just like athletes, there is a lot of superstition as well.  One of the big ones: Bad dress rehearsal means good concert performance but good dress means bad concert.  Its not always true, but its really close.  So I’m hoping the sucky dress means we’ll kick ass at the concert.  There is part of me that also knows how tired everyone was.  We did have a full rehearsal that afternoon before the dress.  I was so tired and in so much pain by the end of the dress.  I still can’t get my shoulder to completely relax.  I was going to do some stuff tonight, but I’m thinking after I finish this post (which is way longer than I thought it would be) I’m using the heating pad and heading to bed.

After the dress finished, Chelsea came back here for the Fringe episode.  I love watching shows with her because we are so vocal.  We both yell and scream at the TV like boys watching football.  Kelly came down at one point wondering what the hell was going on.  So glad she actually did something productive for the apartment today.

And now I’m posting an entry.  That’s been my day so far.  I’m thinking that heating pad, some Extra Sleepytime tea and my book is what is in my future.  The rest can wait until tomorrow.  Seriously.
