i was saved by grace but destroyed by naivety

Last night was amazing. Straylight Run played at the Chance. The show was supposed to be in the Loft, but at the last minute they changed it to the Chance (more room, more tickets, more money for club). I had piano and theatre lessons which went really well. Its definitely summer, because both girls are literally flipping out. But they were cute and I got money. 🙂 When I got to the Chance, I ran into Todd and we ran into Brian, Manny and Laura standing outside the club waiting for Straylight Run to go on. They went on around 9pm which was earlier than we thought, but we were all there so it was ok. Poor Russ had gotten roped into going to Jersey to see ASC, so it was just the five of us and Todd’s band was there with him.

It wasn’t that crowded and there weren’t any annoying little groupies. Well, besides Laura but she’s so funny about it. The show was amazing and the crowd was cool. There was this one kid in the pit who was very much a hardcore groupie. At one point he shouted up to John that he stalked the band. John was like “I’m just going to take that as a compliment and not get scared.” The kid also threw a paper airplane up at Michelle with his name and phone number, which veered off and Shaun ended up with it. They played for a straight hour, with minimal talking between so it was a solid hour. For some reason John thought this was the coolest crowd he had ever played for. He kept telling us that. It was rather amusing. Settle and Laura got into a fight over who was going to marry Michelle.

The best part (besides EVERY SINGLE SONG THEY DID) was the encore. John had said quite a few times, they wouldn’t do an encore cause they perform all of their songs for shows in the set and there is nothing left over. But for somereason, he loved us so much, he came back down stairs and asked “You really want more?” Crowd screams. “But we don’t know anymore.” Stalker Kid – “Play the whole set again!” John – laughs “Well I just recorded this song. Its just piano, but I’ve never done it live, so I don’t know if I remember it.” He kept fooling around on the piano, while we cheered. “Ok, I think I can do it. And I think you’ll forgive me if I screw up. And I think the band is going to sit upstairs and just laugh at me.” Cheering as the band appears. Drummer on set, bassist with tamborine, and Michelle adding random vocals. It was amazing.

And the best part of the whole night was voice mail I got afterwards from Mike saying he would go North with me the weekend. I was so happy. He said he’d be up around 9 so we can leave at a reasonable hour. And then Manny, Laura and I went to the diner. After Laura totally dragged Settle to the ground. That was hysterical. Laura left the diner and Manny and I went to the school and ended up talking about Star Wars for like 3 hours. It was so awesome.

And now its lunch and I have phone calls to make. 😉
