Deviant Writing #44

Deviant Writing 44. Two Roads.

I know this usually brings to mind the Robert Frost poem and the concept of picking the one less traveled.  I’ve never studied poetry or even Frost, but I’ve come to believe this has to do with choices.  We choose left or right and due to that choice we end up in one place or another.  Where I grew up, there were lots of roads.  There were usually at least 3 ways to get from point A to point B.  This includes getting from my house to the "main road" which is only a county road.  Depending on how I feel on a particular trip, I will choose a different way.  I’ll still get to the right destination, but I might have taken a longer route, or more scenic road.  Other times it will be direct, the quickest way there – which is different than the shortest distance.  All these choices, but the destination is the same.  As I’m coming up on my college graduation, I think about the long and convoluted route I took to get here.  I did not follow the typical path, but I’m not sure that matters anymore.  Its not so much about the destination as it is about the journey.  Do I wish I had done things differently?  Do I have regrets?  Yes, of course.  There always things we wished to change.  But I know that changing even one of these things would change who I am and how I got to where I am today.  I’m not perfect, nor complete, but I like who I am.  And while I sometimes wish I had taken an easier route, I appreciate the knowledge I’ve gained from taking that other route.  I ended up at the same place, just took a different path.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I
I took the one less traveled by,
And while that has made all the difference
I still arrived at the correct destination
Even if your map claims I took the wrong road

🙂 So much knowledge and wisdom in this entry, Rory. I wouldn’t have you any other way than as you are now! 🙂
