The Forest Fire

Today a forest fire started about 25km’s from the city where I live. It looks as if it’s right behind the hill, but it’s not. It was 38 degrees today, it was sooo hot. Apparently the fire was started by lighting, or so they say. I sure as heck didn’t see any lighting. It was blazing hot all day, not stormy.

Anyways the fire started off being about 30 hectares, but now it’s spread to 300 or so. It’s out by Lac Le Jeune, which is just outside of town, a few minutes down the road. They say no homes or livestock are threatened yet, but you can never tell with these wildfires. The wind picks up and they can spread so fast. I managed to get a few cool shots of the smoke on my digital camera. The sky was reddish orange, and I would have liked to get a pic of it, but by the time me and my mom got in the car and drove up the hill to take pictures, the sky had changed a bit. Here’s a couple of pics I took:

I don’t think we have anything to worry about. Either way, me and my mom made a list of all the things we’d grab if worse came to worse. When I think about it, I have a lot of stuff that I could really live without. The most important things are my electronics like my computer, and a few personal things like my art portfolio and my photo albums. I doubt we’ll ever need to be evacuated, but it’s better to be prepared then having to panic at the last minute.

Kinda makes me just a little scared, since I’ve always been scared of my house burning down since I was a kid. Ah….I’m not gonna worry about it, or at least try not to. The firefighters are reassessing in the morning, so we’ll see how things go.
