Gah. One week of classes left then I’m on summer break. Sort of. I mean, I’ll still have giant email piles and meetings, meetings, meetings. But I won’t be reading the screenplays. It’s nice to take a good long break from solving their story problems. I’ll have extra mental bandwidth for my own stuff.
We finally picked an interior color. I’m so stoked. A friend of ours who curated a show about the French Architect Le Corbusier told us that the architect put together a color palette for his designs and that it’s kind of a one-stop-solution when it comes to figuring out a color scheme. I downloaded the palette, loaded it into the Benjamin Moore app and picked my colors.
This is one of two Le Corbusier color palettes. This one’s from 1931 and then he did a newer one (and slightly brighter) in 1955. I like these colors better. I know we’re sort of bucking the mid-century white trend here by painting our walls this dark of a gray/brown. It’s the sort of color I would have scoffed at in my 20’s. Here’s what we’re doing: we’re taking off all the molding — so every wall will square off with the floor or ceiling. Where the wall meets the floor will be a 10mm deep channel instead of molding. We’ll strip out every detail to make things as minimalist as possible. The wall plates for outlets and switches are going to be in a dark gray.
I talked to my mom today for Mother’s Day — huzzah. She’s in a pretty good mood. It’s been rough for her these past two years. Of course for everyone but you know, being 82 during a pandemic and seeing your friends die from age and covid, plus she’s in Florida so the daily parade of idiocy is a lot to take. My mother said, “women got too close to getting equal so they’re going to punish us all.”
I really love that color palette!

I love what your mother said about women being too close to being equal. As a woman myself, I’ve always felt equal to any other person. But the Orwellian adage of “some are more equal than others” seems to be society’s norm.
F society.
