I started physical therapy today. I’m using the McKenzie method. The therapist said he was optimistic. I showed improvement doing the exercises. The key will be do they alleviate my pain over the long term or not. If they don’t then it means the disc doesn’t have enough integrity to repair itself so while the exercises help me feel better for a few minutes, I need them to make me feel better for a lifetime. It’s bit by bit, though. We should know in a few weeks if I’m showing improvement. If not — well then probably surgery.

Yes, but knowing that you’ve tried everything before jumping to surgery is the right way to go. Hopeful for you!
