Another day another mass shooting in America. This time we have one with a direct line to the murderous lies of Fox News and one Swanson’s Frozen Hog Slops princeling, Tucker “Mommy please love me” Carlson. Yes the killer spouted “the great replacement” as his motive. Something that Tuc’s medicated pads has spouted on his own evening bamboozlment hour.
But we do not live in a serious country where serious problems are taken seriously.
Our active shooter incidents have gone from 3 a year to 40 a year since 2000. And nothing gets done.
And then there’s this factoid: a huge number of gun owners, men in a panic about their masculinity, end up using that very same gun to kill themselves. What a strange business model — selling a product that claims to keep you safe but in reality, makes you less safe and more likely to kill yourself. So all you mouth-breathing frothy MAGA gun nuts… is this really what a “well-regulated militia” looks like? Looks sloppy AF to me.

I lived in Iceland for 7 years. It was the most peaceful place I’ve ever been and the police even return lost dogs to their owners as part of their job.
This country is fucked.

Every gun owner – yes even responsible gun owner – is one bad day away from tragedy. One heated argument, one lost job, one nasty breakup, one curious toddler, one disaffected teenager, one distracted moment – away from tragedy.

You do realize that over 70% of those gun murders occur in the big cities that are run by democrats and already have strict gun bans already in place. And surprise, surprise… nothing changes.
@peter_24601 You might want to do some research into Per Capita rates of gun violence in the US. Large cities have larger populations but they don’t have higher rates of gun violence. That’s like saying a town of 300 with a gun death rate of 100 is less violent than a city of 1,000,000 with a death rate of 1000 because 300 is less than 1000. And I know you know this, but you may not have considered it this way. The top 5 states for gun violence, per capita, are Alaska, Alabama, Montana, Louisiana and Mississippi. Hardly liberal hotbeds of gun-grabbers. This data is knowable. I frequently ask myself, “Could I be wrong?” Because I don’t want to go around supporting an idea that is destructive. Just as a thought experiment, try to prove yourself wrong with some research. If you can’t, then no harm. And if you can, maybe you should ask yourself what else you’ve gotten wrong.
*100, not 300.
@bitterpill I prefer to work with real numbers rather than averages that are used to try to shift narratives away from themselves. We’re only in May, but Chicago already has 220+ homicides, and over 10 mass shootings. It’s just over 190 for Philly, and its looking no better for other democrat run cities like LA (122) and New York (96). All these cities have tougher gun laws, but as you can see the number of deaths continue to soar as these cities are seeing their highest numbers in 15 years. I’m not sure what the answer is, but what these cities are doing is clearly not working…
@peter_24601 Per capita numbers are real numbers. I’m not using numbers to shift the narrative. The fact is, you’re more likely to be killed by a gun in a red state than a blue state. It’s just math. Secondly, you say you don’t know what’s to be done and yet our country is the only developed economy with regular mass shootings. I know what’s to be done because I’ve lived in Germany and Canada. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. But honestly, I don’t care anymore. If we don’t have the courage to be honest about gun violence in this country, then let’s just keep having mass shootings. You want to blame everything on democrats. Fine. Your mind is made up. There’s no point in debating because any solution beyond thoughts and prayers is too much.
