Another day, another mass shooting

This is what minority rule looks like. Americans want guns to be harder to buy than a giant Kit-Kat from a vending machine. They’d like background checks. They’d like a ban on military hardware flooding the streets. But we don’t have a real government in this country. We have permanent minority rule. And until the shrinking voting block of republicans dies off enough or some mass migration occurs, we’re stuck with this. You want something to change? It will never change.

Not once, not ever has a republican gun enthusiast said ONE THING that couldn’t be refuted by facts, data and science. But as we know, facts, data and science have a liberal bias.

Today the Republican Party will vote to block a domestic terrorism bill because they are the party of domestic terrorism.

Republicans say it’s our media and our lack of GOD that cause this problem. Other countries, who have the same media don’t have this problem because they don’t have 1.2 guns per citizen and they don’t have free and unfettered access to as much firepower as they can buy. You say it’s our lack of god? How come more secular countries don’t have mass shootings? No seriously? I’m not anti-God but I am anti this White Christian Nationalist bullshit that thinks arming yourself to the teeth is a good idea. You say it’s mental health? Then how come every republican voted to drop mental health issues from being an issue when buying a gun? You say it’s because these are soft targets? No they’re not. There are armed guards at all of these schools. You can’t actually harden your way out of this problem. You’re wrong, republicans, you’re wrong and you’re killing us day by day.

Amen

No one except farmers and law enforcement have guns in Iceland; but I felt safe and protected.  I wish we would pull the guns out of our asses and BAN them for most people.

Thanks for making that clear, as awful as the truth is.  Maybe if we all heard the truth enough, we’d get up off our kazoos and do something about it …

I agree with every single bit of this.  This country is so disappointing.

The answer is not that simple. Just look over at what’s happening in Australia and you’ll see what the founding fathers feared and why the 2nd amendment exists. If the government is the only people who have guns, tyranny is what happens. People are dragged away to camps and rights are stripped away. I’m all for finding a reasonable middle ground on the gun issue, but an outright ban isn’t right, and only makes the problem worse rather than better.

@peter_24601 I’m not asking for an outright ban. I’m asking for background checks, preventing the mentally ill from buying guns and the level of permitting one needs to drive a car.

@bitterpill I don’t mind those ideas, but we can come up with others as well. Using the car idea, we could suggest someone take a safety course and pass a test before being allowed to purchase a weapon. I’m also not against raising the age to 21, but the courts have already gunned that down in California. Another idea is to (using the car comparison) require people to buy gun insurance. That would slow down a lot of purchases as well.
