Anniversary, now with tacos
We had our 11th anniversary on Thursday. It’s kind of wild that we’ve been married longer than marriage was legal for us in this country. We were married in 2008 during the brief window in California where it was legal before the Mormons and the orthodox Catholics got all up in our grill and pushed Prop 8 onto the ballot — banning same sex marriage in CA. Of course it was all overturned again in 2014, but still — knowing that people in my own state voted to take away rights? It was, shall we say, disappointing? After the election of 2016 where people from my own country voted for a traitor and failed real-estate developer with an elaborate comb-over and disconcertingly short fingers, I stopped being disappointed and instead grew disgusted.
It is a weird thing — to be married. Good, but weird. I’m super lucky. My husband’s really great in every way. Neither of us thought we would ever be able to get married, so that’s the weird part. To be legally married. For now. I’m a catastrophic thinker, so I imagine Garbage Face will be re-elected and our marriage will be as a tasty morsel offered up to the salivating dogs of the Christian Right. I promised myself that in order to get the most out of Open Diary, I’d not mention politics — not much. A little. So, I’ll just get it out of my system by saying that if you support Trump you’re garbage and you should go fuck yourself. Forever. Also, please know that everyone hates you and knows you’re a horrible human being. Well not everyone, there are the other monsters like you. They think you’re great, but you’re all in a club that no sane, moral, decent or reasonable person would want to be in.
Where was I? Oh, yes, marriage. We’re off to Inverness for four days. I’ve never been. I don’t totally love Northern California. It’s beautiful up there but It can get really annoying, really fast. It’s that hippie thing. Mean hippie millionaires. Very weird combo. Their mansions smell like lentils. Every restaurant in San Francisco is crazy expensive and you can’t get in unless you made a reservation weeks in advance. And then, let’s be honest, they’re okay but I’ve had better meals with less barrier to entry in Los Angeles. After Inverness we’re spending four more days in San Francisco. Then at the end of the month I’m off to Tampa (Ugh!) and New York. My mom lives in Tampa. I grew up in Miami in the 80’s so I really, really, really do not like Florida. I can honestly say the entire state is my least favorite place. I’d rather go to Iran and they would throw my gay ass off a building there. New York is okay. It’s kind of like a giant, dirty mall now that it’s all billionaires. I’m curious to go to see the Hudson Yards neighborhood. I’ve got a soft spot for Zaha Hadid. I also want to see the Calatrava designed transit center. I went to the site of the Twin Towers in late September of 2001 as I had a trip planned before 9/11 and when I got to NY I needed to see it with my own eyes. I’ve not been down there since, so I’m thinking this is the trip where I’ll go to the memorial. I have a cranky, curmudgeon friend who lives in Brooklyn. We’ve known each other for 30 years and he’s as anti-social and idiosyncratic as I am. He once told me he would “never be friends with someone who had Entenmann’s Doughnuts in their house.” He was dead serious, too — so I never told him about that box that was right that instant sitting in my pantry back home. Anyhow, I’m going to stay with him for a few days and go do all these touristy things without him. He hates that shit and will be thrilled that I go entertain myself on my own. I, too, have zero problem being hotelier to visiting guests — just don’t please, ask me to keep you entertained!
The guy on Letterkenny is cute, right? I had no idea that show was Canadian but now it all makes perfect sense.
Well, congratulations on your anniversary……Hope you have many more years……

My part of Florida is beautiful. lots of live oak trees with Spanish moss, white sugar sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. Only problem is lots of Trumpies.
I hope your anniversary was wonderful. I wish you many future years of love and happiness

The Hudson Yards are a bit controversial but I love seeing the buildings and The Vessel from the water. So much has changed here since you’ve been – I hope you enjoy.
