~1st entry’s Explanation -4

“Mama Do It!”; -When we lived in England, there was a Time that he just wanted me to help him with his coat and stuff. It made me feel good. Age 2

Big Purple Mural on the Wall; -I was pretty much on top of what the kids were doing, but this was on instance when I was in the Kitchen that Nathan took a Purple Color Crayon and Artistry made designs on the entire lengthy of the wall. Age 2

The Plate of Barbecue Sauce; -Nathan was beginning to get finicky about eating. This one night he hadn’t ate much, so we left him at the table to finish. Shortly later I got up to see how he was. He ate his food and also reached for the Barbecue Sauce on the Table. He had emptied the Content in his plate and was not eating that too. I tried so hard not to laugh as I was trying to take his picture. Age 3

Tennis Shoes that Make You Jump Higher; -One time after getting new shoes he said the Tennis Shoes helped him to jump Higher. Age 5

Sitting on Daddy’s Lap the entire Flight From New York to England; -Before we went Overseas. Brian had to go to a Schooling in Mississippi. He was gone 6 weeks. While he was Gone Nathan would walk around my Mom’s house calling for Daddy. The kids and I flew out to meet Brian, and Nathan just couldn’t get enough of him. On the Flight to England from New York, we had just 3 seats. So Nathan had to sit with one of us. He only wanted his Da-lee. Age 18 Months

Colorado Springs, CO; -In 1989 we moved to Colorado Springs when Nathan was Age 4 ½ and he lived there till he went to Heaven at age 12 and 17 days.

Wrestling with Dad; -Nathan loved to wrestle with his Dad. Age 2-12. Of course Nathan loved to wrestle with anyone. That was a common Boy thing to do.

Your 1st Buzz; -Nathan talked about wanting a GI Hair Cut. But his idea of a GI hair Cut and Ours was two different things. We were thinking along the lines of GI Joe and don’t know what he was thinking. Nathan was almost 5 and we took him to the Base. Watching them Buzz him… OMG it was shocking to us to see him like that. We Laughed but he didn’t see that. When it was all said and done he cried. This is NOT what he wanted! We then told him we would buy him some GI Joe Sandals. He already had GI Joe Pants and Shirt. He seemed to be more happier and actually wanted his hair like that again.

Ice fishing; -Nathan and his Dad for several years went Ice Fishing at in Farrish. They’d bring the Stove and cook the Fish right there on the Ice. They loved to Fish Together.

Hot Wheels; -Oh Nathan had Gobs of these.

G.I. Joe men; -Nathan had Gobs of these too. He had all that GI Joe stuff. Men, Trucks, Helicopter, etc. Nathan and I sometimes would line the GI Joes up in the backyard and have our sides and toss dirt clogs at each other’s men. Last one side standing was the winner. Age 5-12

Swimming Lessons; -Nathan got Swimming Lessons when he was almost 10 and his sister almost 12. Living in Colorado I just didn’t think much about them learning to swim. But an incident in a Relatives Pool in California, as the adults were eating breakfast outside, told us they needed to learn to swim. It was really hard for Sarah though cause she was in Classes of 5 year olds. They both did well, but Nathan never got the Diving Down. Belly Flopped everytime.

Frosted Flakes; Cocoa Puffs; Trix; Fruit Loops; Apple Jacks; Cocoa & Fruity Pebbles; Corn Pops; Shredded Wheat; -Nathan loved Cereal and so did Sarah. I had to buy each of them the same kind and write their names on the Boxes so they each could eat that kind as fast or as slow as they wanted. There was no fights this way.

Sledding; -He loved to go Sledding.

Pepperoni Pizza; -Nathan’s Favorite! We used to buy 2 large Pizzas when we ordered Pizza. Nathan could practically eat one by himself.

12 Candles on Your Last Cake; -Speaks for itself. He looked so forward to turning 12. Legally you can stay home alone at age 12. So he was looking forward to that. He got Opportunity to do it once or twice.

What a great idea about the cereal. But I would have to buy THREE of each. Almost worth it to stop the bickering.

RYN: so many good ideas. Also, I didn’t know American kids like sunflower seeds. I thought it was mostly a Middle Eastern taste.

we used to buzz our son too.He is 16 now and last week he shaved his head for the 2nd time this year as part of his hockey team ritual :0) Reading on these memories are so special and touching.

That is a great idea with the cereal, I wish I had thought of that when my kids were young! These memories of yours bring tears to my eyes. You are a very strong woman and I admire you a great deal, I hope you know that. When I first started reading your diary from beginning, I knew you were someone special! Nathan was lucky to have you as a Mom, Sarah too! {{{Hugs}}} 🙂

These are so cute & touching… I am so sorry about your loss of your young son. Today I’m expressing condolences to my sister-in-law on her mother’s death. As sad as that is, it’s more the natural order of things. We had family friends who lost their son at 13..it’s wretched. Anyway, these are lovely memories, so nice to share with us about him…

I’m so touched by your memories of Nathan. Boys are a handful and yet as your memories show. You would’nt want trade one momment spent w/ them.

There is a childrens book about a little boy and a purple crayon. The title alludes me for now but your story reminded me of that.
