Thoughts on life….
Well, why not. I have an hour before I need to check out from the Wakeup Hotel in Copenhagen, so I’m going to use this time to record some thoughts on life, which I haven’t had much opportunity to do this last nearly 7weeks, as I have been hurrying from one place on the globe to another. Perhaps I need this to ground myself a bit.
It was at breakfast this morning that these thoughts came along. Going down in the lift to the second floor (my room is on the 8th), there were 4 complete strangers in the lift, all guys. But we all had one thing in common. We were all headed to breakfast. I broke the silence to say that we were all heading to the same place… A few chuckles. An ice breaker. It’s a very big restaurant and a very big hotel. Even at 7 15 am there would have been 50 people already there. All differently dressed, all there with the same purpose, to find out how to obtain breakfast from the self-service, and to consume same without fuss. Queues formed. People were polite to each other. I followed others and worked out how to get my drinks and food, and found an empty table. You know everybody was in the same boat. No one was annoying anyone, it was all very orderly.
Contrast that to the chaos happening in some parts of the world. A double murder back home. People not respecting others. But overall I feel a sense of hope that the respectful energy will replace the non-respectful. That people will stop fighting one another. It may take time, but its gonna happen.
I people watched as I was enjoying my juice, coffee, bread rolls, salad, salami and boiled egg. I skipped the cereal. People seemed happy, small family groups, but not many kids, in fact none, just business people and tourists. Mainly a younger age group, but a few oldies as well.
Im so blessed that I can do this trip. Get to different places, see how the other half live. Get to explore and get lost in a safe environment. Interact with different cultures, yet stay connected with my own through the Internet. It’s giving me a fresh perspective on life, but I would have difficulty describing that perspective other than what I have already written. I’m sure it will become clearer when I get back to Rocky Bay, and when I prepare my scrap book of the trip, and I’m going to be able to dine out on memories for a long time to come.
You are a lucky man!

I listened to the BBC tell of the US and Britain planning to intervene in Syria. They will use ships with missiles so there will be no risk to our own service people. The missiles will be precisely targeted. But what are the targets? More ‘innocent’ lives? Of course. Collateral damage. And yet you can travel around the world. I could too if I went to the trouble to do it. We would be advised to avoid Syria.

I love the name of the Wakeup Hotel. Is it named that way on purpose or just a coincidence? Poorly worded question but maybe you know what I mean?

Nice! I wish I had the courage to travel like you do! š

Perhaps there’s something in the name of the hotel that inspired those thoughts!!

Nice to read the reflections about your travels. When you think about your life, perspective is everything. It’s very egalitarian of you to share your travels here.

A few people in a small area with out any aggression is the norm, the papers are full of the extremes of human behaviour, I recall an old lady telling me there are a lot of dangerous back allies in Spain; she had been nowhere except by reading the wrong Sunday Papers! This digital world goes two ways, we know people round the world, yet some young people keep to school friends in a digital net!

I truly hope we stop fighting one another. What happened in Syria is devastating; and news this morning is that the man the Police were looking for in relation to the double murder shot and killed himself in Woodhill forest today. It is all so unnecessary and terribly saddening. Enjoy your travels, I am so envious but love reading all about it.

Deep thoughts – and I hope for global respect among people some day, too.

I too know that someday the world will be at peace. There has been war since the beginning of time. It seems it is much easier to disagree than to agree. But you are right, when you all have a common goal, like breakfast, it is amazing how we can all get along.

It’s a huge blessing to get to be able to travel, see so many different cultures and customs and learn all about everything in other areas. I have learned a lot from the small amount of traveling I’ve done so far. I love seeing and learning new perspectives. š K and I have started to share gratitude lists together – we take turns saying something we are grateful for. it’s helped us to realize a lot of great things we have in our lives right now, and to really appreciate them a bit more deeply.
