Early test re #1…. / training

2014 wasn’t very old before I had  a huge test re resolution #1. Couldn’t let my dinner guest’s behaviour go unchallenged, so some of the things I said resulted in my guest leaving. C’est la vie! But I struggled afterwards because I haven’t had any contact, don’t want any contact, even though she is calling me and texting me. Hmmmm.

Anyway, I’m well into training for my runs this year. 3 will actually be walks, with just Round the Bays runnable for me at 8.7 Kms. So for the last 3 days I have taken myself over to town and walked 20 Kms from the Ferry Building to St Heliers and back. Details:

Saturday…. Outwards 10 Kms.  95 mins. Inwards 10 Kms 114 mins.

Sunday… Outwards 113 mins. Inwards 101 mins (heavy rain on return leg).

Today… Outwards 105 mins. Inwards 112 mins (very hot weather).

So that’s 60 Kms in 3 days. I’ve sort of proved that I can keep walking at a pace to complete Cape Reinga to Bluff in about 5 months. The plan is to start mid-October and finish by the end of March. It’s 2000 Kms top to bottom. But allowing for rest days, bad weather, possible injuries, civil unrest…..5 and a half months should be enough.

Exactly who comes with me, and who drives the support vehicle, is yet to be determined. I’ve had tentative interest from a few but nothing definite. I’ll probably advertise. I am looking for drivers willing to give me a week of their time. I will cover accommodation and food and vehicle, but the job itself is voluntary. Great way to see NZ for very little outlay. That’s Plan A.

Not sure if I want to do another 20 Kms tomorrow. I’ll see how I feel in the morning.

Maybe you could help your dinner guest to come around to your way of thinking? But sometimes it is best to have some go out of our lives. Hope you find a good driver.

Wouldn’t it be nice if I could drive your support vehicle for a week or two.

Hey, you did the right thing by not allowing your dinner guest’s behavior to go unchallenged. It’s important to be kind but it’s more important not to allow oneself to be treated unkindly or in a disrespectful manner. I’m sorry it’s come to this but once again you did the right thing. I admire you so much for your walking. I’ve begun walking. So far, I am not able to walk very far but I am sure in time my walking time will increase. I bought and iPod Shuffle so I can listen to music as I walk. Do you listen to music? I just love to walk. It’s a wonderful exercise.

RYN: I agree, exercise makes a big difference in one health and it does prolong life. I’m walking because it’s what my doctor advised. He always asks me if I’m walking as opposed to what I’m eating. Having said that, I believe walking will inspire me to eat better. I understand enjoying listening to the noises around you while walking. I think that’s nice too, especially if you hear the sound of the ocean. You have a great day Rocky. 🙂

Random and inquiring minds (well, at least this one) is curious what was said to challenge the guest?

That is wonderful, especially in this heat. Whew! Hope you are getting enough electrolytes and hydration! Take care out there.

resolution 41. whatever other one you broke.

You made it to front page.

20 Km is a LOT. I can walk a bit of that but I haven’t been training. You seem so easy going. I cannot imagine what a dinner guest might have said/done to ruffle your feathers. And yeah, sometimes “no” means “no”! No more, not you… etc. Congrats on sticking to your guns.

Impressive, BSHG! *waves arms over head*

You kind of fulfilled #8, 12 and 23, but I your actions seemed to conflict directly with #41. The only NY resolution I’ve ever made was 4 years ago. It was to always smell nice. I buy beautifully scented shower gel, moisturisers, perfumes and oils and I love it. Keep it simple and you’ll achieve your resolutions (or in my case, single resolution). Nice resolutions by the way. Happy New Year!

ah, I’m tempted to volunteer! hehe.
