Days 29 30 31 pubs, Guinness and Giants Causeway..
29 We set off from the Russell Court Hotel just after 8, and managed to negotiate, with SatNavs help, the way out of Dublin. Not easy. They forgot to extend the motorways into the city. Beautiful green Irish countryside. We reached Galway quite quickly, and wandered around the old city, lots of tourists and street entertainers, and enjoyed freshly made rhubarb tart with our morning coffee. Bought an Irish T shirt…just to prove I’ve been there! From Galway we drove across to Achill, the biggest island off Ireland’s west coast. And there, strange though it may seem, we met Christine from the Rocky Bay games group! It wasn’t by accident. We knew each other would be there at the same time. Christine drove us along the coast to a nice beach, and the three of us sat on the grass and had a good ole catch up and get to know you session. Then we ate dinner at a lovely seafood restaurant….cod with a crab sauce stuffing. Hmmmm.
We stayed at Pure Magic, but the room was very small. Achill was beautiful, wild and windswept.
30. If the weather had been ok I was going to climb Slievemore mountain, but fortunately it was dull and cold! My poor legs still hadn’t recovered from Monday, so it was a bit of a let-off for me. We left for the long drive to Derry, passing through Sligo where LOTB deviated to Strandhill and where we both enjoyed a glass of Guinness, my first. It was ok, not going to be my favourite tipple, still prefer red wine.
Food has been a big focus lately. We are both eating well as the food in Ireland is delicious. We had a pretty good hotel in Derry, the Premier Inn. Dinner in house was beef and ale pie for me, but LOTB skipped a main and we shared a dessert.
31 I got out early for one of my traditional walks around the neighbourhood. Brought back brekkie from the supermarket, and breakfasted in bed! Left Derry and drove to Coleraine where I met Naomi and Peter, but not Morgan, then drove over to Giant’s Causeway. Joined a conducted tour of the site, and learned a bit of history and mythology. Hopped around a bit on the hexagonal stones…cool. Then on to the Horseshoe waterfall and down to Belfast where we are now, having checked in to Dunsilly hotel…another nice one. We are about to go out to the Celtic Dream concert at the Europa Hotel where LOTB had that interesting nocturnal experience a couple of weeks ago…!
The thing with Guiness is, your body will recognize it as food. It doesn’t take long to be hooked. Your days in Ireland sound wonderful. Food is a good thing to focus on, especially when your legs are sore from all that running.

Guinness is an acquired taste but I like a half pint now and then. Hmmm, must put some on the shopping list! Are you going to Mull and Iona islands off the west coast of Scotland later? If so do try to fit in a boat trip to Staffa, at the other end of the Giant’s Causeway.
