Days 23 24 Morris dancers / the Emerald Isle
Day 23..Thursday..basically a rest day. but Jane, Lily and Erin came over, as did Alice, Conor and 1 year old Max. He’s cute, although not talking yet, so we all played with him until he fell asleep, as did I briefly.. In the evening, Colin, Sue and myself went out to dinner at the Red Lion in Lacock, a historic village where there are no buildings newer than 1690. It’s all very historic and preserved as it was back then. Couldn’t persuade them that I should pay for dinner, brother and S-I-L very generous towards me this trip.
Lacock village and the abbey is where some of the Harry Potter films were shot.
Right outside the pub, a group of Morris dancers was performing. It’s more energetic than I first thought.
Day 24…in transit to Dublin from Chippenham.. Sad farewells, then Colin dropped me at the station and I caught the 10 09 to Bristol Temple Meads. Hopped on to the airport shuttle, waited at the airport for my Slightly late Ryanair flight. Must have dozed whilst in the air coz in no time at all, landed at Dublin airport. Shuttle bus into city, found my hotel, the Celtic Lodge Guesthouse, very comfortable. Went out in search of food and to have a look around. Plenty of pubs in Dublin! Ate Mexican, then strolled around the city centre.
There is a huge steel obelisk right near my hotel…well it’s actually the Spire of Dublin, the Monument of light. Also known colloquially as the Stiletto in the Ghetto, the Nail in the Pale.
First thoughts are … Dublin is not a patch on Paris…but I shouldn’t rush to judgement. Memo to self…please do some serious walking tomorrow coz the race is on Monday…less than 72 hours…..
ok better get some rest…..catch you tomorrow….x
you just wait for me to get there!

There are no shortage of drinkers in Dublin either as I recall!I wonder if you will get out and about in County Wicklow. I adored it.

ok, ewww for black pudding. gross. but brave of you to try it. heh. I figured anything british called pudding would get pudding all wrong (ok, rather American of me to say, but pudding is a dessert here, it’s so weird to think anyone would eat a savory pudding). so neat about Lacock village – I looked at pictures of it. looks like it is the perfect place for period films to be filmed.heh.

ps, I thought I’d also look at pictures of Dublin. wow, it’s remarkably beautiful! and how funny as I viewed a few images on google images that it showed me a picture of ‘the temple bar’ – a bar mentioned in one of my mystery books I just read because a character is named Temple Bar. two characters went to that bar and had dinner in one of the scenes. I’m surprised and delighted by all ofthe water and bridges pictures of Dublin. 🙂
