Day 62 long flight to good ole USA…..

62 took my time to pack up (again) in the EasyHotel, then went out for brekkie, a tasty smoked salmon roll, and coffee, and then went back to check out. Walked into the station, finally discovering the quickest route there after 4 days! Bought my six franc 60 ticket to the airport and was there in plenty of time to check in and relax in the departure lounge. Flight LX038 took off on time at 1305 hrs. Although long, 11 and a half hours, this was actually a nice flight. I got a good seat right in front of the bulkhead, with plenty of leg room, and was always served first for meals and snacks. And a window seat. And my neighbour along side me was a Swiss lady, maybe thirtyish, who was very quiet until we were approaching SF. She was very tall and didn’t know quite what to do with her legs, and read fashion mags the whole trip while she wasn’t dozing. She was also going on vacation.

I looked for a free shuttle after effortlessly getting through immigration and baggage claim, but there didn’t seem to be one for the Regency Inn. So I caught a cab even though it was just a few blocks away. I asked information if I could walk there but I couldn’t, it was not allowed to walk out of the airport. Interesting. This is a very comfortable motel type place, huge room, huge bed, and lots of storage so that I could have a good unpack and sort out. I’d eaten well on the flight so I didn’t feel too hungry, so when I went out for a wander around San Bruno, I didn’t need to find a restaurant, just bought a few items in a mini market and took them back to my room. San Mateo Avenue had at least 4 martial arts places, and I watched some young guys throwing each other around. Good to be back in America. Didn’t sleep that good, fits and starts, but down for a very generous self help brekkie this morning, day 63, and the weather’s nice. watched a bit of TV news at brekkie, all local news about traffic and a few local tragedies, fires etc.

wondering if I will make it in to the Americas cup today…I hope so. Will be checking out soon and going by BART to the city. Then I will go to Sweden House Hotel and try to check in my bags before I head to the race. OK better get going…..

Oh…and good on Putin for his diplomatic efforts to try to avert military intervention in Syria…there’s hope yet over this….

There’s possible good news that Syria would surrender control of chemical weapons to international control and dismantle them to avert U.S strikes. Let’s hope eh?

This is the first time I have heard of not being able to walk out of an airport. That sounds so strange.

63 days! I’m so jelly right now, I wish I was there!!

don’t think you have been able to ‘walk out of an air port’ for many many years in the major cities for sure… welcome back to the USA Rocky

Not sure I trust they will get all the chemical weapons. As in Iraq they’ve had plenty of time to move them into well hidden places and let Russian have some token ones. But I am so glad that Putin is helping stop Obama of his wish to help the rebels who may have actually been the real ones to use the weapons. Have a good race and glad your trip is going well.

Why would one not be able to walk out of an airport? What a strange world. I value your observations and insights. I hope to do some travelling next year and am learning a lot from you.

Fun adventures! I wonder if she was a model. Soooo agree about Syria! I wrote to all of my congress members about it. Heard back from Barbara lee – happily she won’t support any military strikes. I haven’t explored San Bruno before. Interesting.
