Day 49 Copenhagen 50 Malmo….

49 after checking out and stowing my 2 bags in the basement left luggage of the Wakeup hotel, I headed out and hopped on a tourist bus going around the city. I’d actually walked to about half the stopping off places yesterday but the commentary was useful. Apparently Danes are the happiest people on the globe. And the highest point is only 171 metres. There was comment about the contempory designs of Danish buildings, and I could see the recent ones are very creative with unusual lines, not just a block of concrete. No high rises either. I then got my ticket on the train to Malmo, Sweden, walked back to the hotel to get my bags, and caught the 1332 train out of Copenhagen. Arrived Malmo and waited until nearly 4 pm as I couldn’t check in before then. Got a cab to the Rut and Ragnars hostel. It’s really nice and clean and well supplied with bathrooms, laundry and 2 kitchens. I checked in and prepaid for 3 breakfasts. My bunk is number 23 in my dorm of 18 bunks. Sounds wrong but the numbering starts at 21, and the room number is 19 ! Immediately went back out without bothering to unpack, walking into the centre of Malmo, took about half an hour. It’s a nice clean city with lots of history. Walked around the waterfront where there was a yachting tournament in progress. Found a really nice restaurant and had chicken with peppers, courgettes and a yummy sauce, and a glass of red. Excellente! Walked back a different way, being careful to avoid collisions with cyclists, of which there are thousands in this city. I kept having to remember there are designated cycle lanes, and not to wander across them aimlessly.

50 saw me consume a leisurely help yourself breakfast before venturing out again, this time I walked into the city centre and headed for the main museum. The admission also got me in to the shipping and transport museum. Both museums well worth the combined 8 dollars equivalent entry cost. They had a live specimen of an English viper snake….maybe a relation of the one that bit me in 1967 when I had to miss work for 2 weeks. I whispered some revenge like words through the glass window! That’s the first time I’d actually seen one. It took all day til about 4 pm to go through the 2 museums. Highlights were seeing where prisoners were put to death by decapitation (the actual room where they took place), and a German U boat submarine which was much bigger than I’d imagined.

Back near the hostel I shouted myself a pizza and came back to the dorm to do some overdue budget balancing. Tomorrow is the day to meet Fire and Ice …. And I really have to get my laundry done too. Room 19 is quite full tonight after being only half full last night.

Ok, over and out for now……..
