Thoughts
I was reading Screaming Venus’s diary when she made a comment about Christmas. It made me flash back to when I was a little child and what it was like on Christmas Eve–my birthday–and the next day.
I remember when my parents would want me to get in bed as soon as possible. Something like if Santa saw you, you wouldn’t get your presents. Anyway, it was hard to sleep that night because I knew there would be presents under the tree for me :-). I never slept past 6 I don’t think. As soon as I figured Santa had already visited, I would wake up and see what was mine.
My older cousin had introduced me to the concept of a “wish” list. I remember that first Christmas after that, I had listed about 1,000 things (some off the wall stuff :-P). After every Christmas, I would see that “Santa” had left me a little letter. I would smile with delight at reading what Santa had to say.
It wasn’t until a couple of years ago I left stuff for Santa to eat. One time, I left him salsa, chips, and a coke (I think). Another year, I think I left him milk and cookies hehe.
One year, I discovered that Santa wasn’t real. I am a mix of a light and heavy sleeper. There are times when I can hear things in my sleep and then there are those times when I can’t hear a thing. That year, I remember hearing some shuffling in the den (we live in a split level house). Anyway, I woke up and discovered that my dad was leaving some things under the tree. Another proof of evidence was when I was browsing a drawer in the living room to discover a receipt for a Playstation.
The last few years, we have held Christmas over my sister and brother-in-law’s house. Last year, I helped put together the presents for Aerial and Amber. It was awesome to see their faces light up as they open up new things.
You know…in this world today, it is easy to get frustrated or live in fear. However, we should remember to love our family and friends. It’s times like Christmas, and Thanksgiving when we can live in tranquility. This year, Christmas is at my parent’s house. I know that Amber and Aerial will love what Santa gave them for Christmas. That should be the real reason for Christmas: seeing little kids open up their gifts. However, the main reason we should celebrate is because of Jesus. After all, you can’t spell Christmas without Christ right?
