This Week and Band Camp

I don’t remember what went on Monday–perhaps I didn’t really do anything that stands out. So I’ll start with Tuesday.

Tuesday, I asked my aunt to take me up to Georgia State so I can pay off a housing fee because I won’t be able to register until I did that. So I woke up early and we headed on to Atlanta. When we got there, I knew where to go to cash my bill refund check. (Bellsouth had inadvertently billed me after the phone line in my old dorm was cancelled so they sent me a check for $30.06).

Anywho, I knew where the Suntrust building was but I forgot that the street it was on was a one way street. That was one of the things I love, and dislike, about big cities: one way streets. So, after several going into the same directions, my aunt decided to park in a public parking space and we would walk to the bank and then to the university. We got to the bank and I got my money with little inicident. After that, I headed to the University Housing office to pay off the fee. When I did that, I got my receipt and started to head out but my aunt wanted to talk to the financial aid people. I have to send in four additional forms and I have all but one filled out and ready to go. After I get the fourth one, which is proof that I either signed or didn’t sign an income tax form, then I will go to the financial aid office and give it to them myself.

Then, I asked her if she could take me by Wal-Mart to get my pics developed. After that, I went to Eastside to see what was going on with band. On Tuesday, they had officers, colorguard and drumline there. For the next four days, I went and helped out the cymbals. I might add I had a lot of fun.

It also sucked too Wednesday because my aunt’s house had been struck by lightning and the houses on her side didn’t have any telephone service; I couldn’t call her and let her know I was going on Wednesday. I asked my mom if she could take me to Eastside and she said she could. She works on Wednesdays cleaning up this lady’s house and usually leaves the house around 7:30.

So, I quickly grabbed some cereal–I hate half and half milk, yuck–and ate. Wednesday wasn’t really bad. I had packed a lunch so I didn’t have to worry about lunch. That day, it was rookies, colorguard, and drumline until 1:15. Then, the veterans would attend band camp. Anyway, that day went along pretty well but I didn’t have a ride home. I had to call my mom and get her to pick me up so I could go home. After I was picked up, my mom let me drive to my aunt’s house so I could tell her about going to band camp on Thursday.

Oh yeah, on Wednesday, I saw that show “Worst Case Scenario”. Very informative don’t you think?

On Thursday, my aunt picked me up and we headed on to Eastside. That was the first day they actually learned some of the moves to the opener. That day, Matt Thompson, and James, both cymbal players, and I ordered some pizza from papa johns. The lady told us the pizza would be there in 45 minutes. We had ordered the pizza at 11:45 and figured the pizza would be there around 12:30. Turns out, the pizza guy was here but no one was around to pick up the pizza so he left. It was soo bad because lunch is from 12-1:15 and we didn’t have a pizza. For me, I can do whatever I want basically but the cymbal players couldn’t. Also, some of my friends wanted a slice of pizza so like every 2 minutes, someone would ask if the pizza had arrived yet.

Anyway, I formulated a plan that would work: I would wait out front while the cymbal players practice. When the pizza arrive, I would let them know so they can get something to eat. After calling back the pizza place, the guy came again and this time the order was picked up.

For dinner, the band boosters gave us chicken tenders, rolls, cookies, chips, and a drink. Around 7, two of our drumline members, a stranger, and three of the band staff entertained us with some jazz music. That’s all for Thursday.

Friday was a long day for me. It started when my alarm clock went off at 6:30 but I woke up at 7:34. I was seriously tired the whole day and I couldn’t keep my eyes open…grrr….

Anyway, it was a VERY successful day. The band learned 6 charts instead of 4. That was due, in part, to the scheduling of that day. Instead of going until 5, the band practiced until 9. From 7:30-9, the band had learned 6 charts and was nearly done with the opener.

Also, the band boosters had provided us with free pizza from Stevie B’s! (On Thursday, when I came home, my family had eaten two pizzas: meat lovers and pepporoni lovers. I ooly had one pepperoni. In three days, I had sampled pizza from Papa John’s, Pizza Hut, and Stevi B’s.)

Today, I woke up right on time at 7. I felt so good waking up. The day wasn’t that bad at all. It felt hot outside for the first time but I came inside to help out with the band room. For lunch, my aunt bought four tacos, three twix, and a mountain dew. For dinner, I had a hamburger and a hot dog.

Oh yeah, the band learned all the moves the opener on the field! Not only that, but they just had a pool party earlier.

And that’s a rough rundown on my week. I didn’t feel like writing because all of you updated while I was gone for the day and I wanted to get some sleep as early as possible. Right now, the band is having three practices next week and Convocation, the meeting of all teachers before school starts, is next week. Newton’s marching band, our cross-town rival, will be there as well. Last year, our marching band wiped the floor with them :-). For the second in September, we are facing Newton for the first time in our 8 year history.

Ahh, isn’t band cool? 🙂 I love being able to make the music instead of just listen to it. Hmm, I feel a quote coming on…”This one time, at band camp…” He he, lets NOT go there! I can’t wait to go to Uni, I’d love to go to Uni somewhere in the states but it’d probably cost too much. Thanks for your kind note on my last entry, I have no idea whats going on between my Mum and Dad right now

sounds like you had a busy week

getting all ready for school again hugh? *smiles*

this one time at band camp…. LOL… kidding! God, I remember back when I was in band. Seems like ages ago though it’s only been a couple of years since I’ve graduated from high school. Weird no? But I do miss it to a certain degree although I will never be a part of a marching band again, thanks to my ex-band director from hell. But I was still glad for the experience.
