New Beginnings

Wednesday, in my Computer Science class, we were in for a shock. A new teacher was here to replace our old one! The last professor we had was a chinese lady who didn’t do a good job of explaining the material. However, she used powerpoint for her lectures and they were pretty straightforward. She was easy as heck but was boring at the same time. We would all be surfing the net at will while she was yabbing on and on.

This new professor came in on Wednesday and told us that our old professor had accepted a new position somewhere in the department (I think). He’s african-american, tall, bald hair, and very sure of himself. Today, he demonstrated that he doesn’t know everything so that’s a good sign. As a class, we are able to engage in more “advanced” conversations with him and that’s refreshing. He also explains things in such a way that a computer illiterate person can fully understand what he’s saying. I’m digging it.

I have to say this about my Mass Communication class…I love it! The professor has a mindset that she will NOT lecture from the book. Instead, she’ll discuss information that goes along with the book. Like on Thursday. She led us in a discussion on Barbie and it’s impact on the global scale. After that, we talked about the major conglomerates and who owns what. We spent time just looking at the Big Ten: AOL Time Warner, GE, Viacom, Rupert Murdoch’s company, etc. and discovering how intertwine these companies are to one another. I thoroughly enjoy that class.

The last entry I wrote is private. There’s only one person I have given liberty to read it, but I don’t know if she read it or not. The entry had to deal with something I’m frustrated about and I wanted to get it off my chest without getting comments. I’m better now so no worries about that.

Hehe for those of you up north, I wish you were down here to hear the radio stations talk about the weather. They talked about how the weather is so brutal and all of that (it’s definately new for us b/c it’s like 16 out or something). It doesn’t feel very cold though! The wind makes it feel cold but it really isn’t that cold. This morning, I took off my jacket and walked around to the train station with just my t-shirt and long sleeve shirt. I wasn’t that cold *shrugs*. On that note, I’m going to head off and find something to do :-P.

BTW isn’t it annoying when you lock your diary and one of your faves update? ^_^

Hope your classes go well. I didn’t think today was too cold, but I love cold weather. I went riding in just a sweater and jeans. Talk to you later.

RYN: LOL! It’s so funny that you mention hiding my food.. cause I did that today when I went grocery shopping. I have some of it in my room! But it was a great idea though! Glad that you got a better prof. I find that it’s so much more comforting when you get what you pay for. Colleges really do need to take into consideration what the students have to say about the teachers. I think (cont)

that sometimes they don’t take people seriously when they say a teacher isn’t teaching well. Oh well… at least you guys got another teacher. The weather here is currently 12 degrees and snowing. But I love it… cause I can walk around in the snow barefoot (that took years of tolerance training… trust me) and I love the snow! So I say… BRING ON THE COLD! 🙂

16 is pretty cold, its 14 here right now but its been hovering below 10 most of the time, especially in the mornings. i’ve lived in michigan for all of my 20 years and i still am not used to the cold. and the biting wind makes it worse. and no snow either, so not only is it terribly cold, but its ugly too! lol 🙂 good classes are always good news 🙂

I took the computer science class semester and I an Asian instructor who spoke almost no English, and the English he did speak was broken. So it was very frustrating to say the least. Good luck!
