My situation

Last night, I went to black belt class for the first time in a few weeks. My instructor was the only one there so he asked me what I wanted to go over. I told him I wanted to go over forms and kenpo because I felt those were the things I needed to work on. He was impressed with my moves and asked me if I had practiced everyday (I hadn’t). I hardly practice because I just don’t feel like practicing for some reason. However, my memory is very good and my muscles remember the movements so it looks like I have been practicing but I haven’t. This is relevant because there is a possibility that I will be eligible to take my 3rd degree test on October 19th (the second part of it). I am technically eligible because I have had my second degree for three and a half years come October (the requirement is three years). However, due to college work, I haven’t gone a whole lot so he said I was like 6 months off or something like that. He has to talk to my other instructor and head of the Covington school as well as his own instructor.

Here’s the breakdown of the testing proceedure. I will go through the underbelt–white through brown–material in front of classes every week. For example, if my test started next week, I would have to do all forms from white to brown belt. Then, on the actual black belt test, I will sit on the panel and will only have to come out and do my black belt curriculum. However, it doesn’t end there. Mr. Fuller is certified to award belts up to second degree. After second degree, I must go to his instructor to complete the final phase of the test. There, I will go over kenpo, sparring, and board breaking to pass that. Hopefully if I get all of that done, I will have my 3rd degree by the first of November.

Good luck with that. I am just kinda scanning over your diary…hope ya don’t mind. Bye. :-þ Angel

I have always found martial arts a very interesting hobby/life style. A good friend of mine is very involved in Kung Fu, though I’m not sure of the differences between that and standard karate.
