Emptying Out
We are getting closer, and closer to closing the store down for good. We have to be out of the building by March 31st, but we are days away from officially closing to the public. The rest of the time will be spent on cleaning up the building. Right now, everything is at least 45% off, and we only have a handful of appliances left.
Customers have been a complete pain lately. Most of them still complain prices are too high while others are still trying to make deals.
When we were told the store was going to close, our transitional manager gave us his blessing to pursue other jobs. If we happened to find another job, we could give them just a week’s notice. One of our associates, Ethan, quit over a week ago.
It all started the weekend prior when his aunt passed away unexpectedly. Her funeral was to be held on the following Wednesday. He elected to call the transitional manager and see if he could have the day off. He went the whole day without contacting our manager. On top of that, he also was also scheduled to take the ASVAB test the next day. He didn’t tell anyone about the test, but he said he would be in to work on Friday.
I was scheduled to be off Friday, so Ethan and Javon were the only ones scheduled to work that Friday. Unfortunately, Ethan decided not to show up which angered Javon. He called me asking if I knew where Ethan was. Once my manager heard all of this, she was furious. Her and Ethan exchanged text messages back and forth, and he finally decided to quit via text. We were already shorthanded as it was, and now there are only three of us left.
So it’s been a major hassle trying to get everything done with just the three of us, but so far, we’ve managed. I expect we’ll be completely sold out of inventory this week. That will give us about 2 weeks to have everything cleaned up and ready to go.
As for jobs, there are two Sears close to us: the mall store and another hometown store. I have personally been offered a job at the hometown store, and I’ve placed an application at the mall store. My transitional manager has given me his permission to be used as a referral. He is actually the senior transitional manager and is pretty powerful in his own right. He reports directly to the Hoffman Estates branch, so he said he will put in a word for me at the mall store.
I will end this entry and get ready for bed.
Are they giving you a servance package?? When Godiva closed They gave us all servance packages (there was 6 of us) We had to stay tell the last day though and they normally dont give part time employees that.
