Day 24 To Mom and Dad
Day 24- A letter to your parents
Dear mom,
There is a lot I want to thank you for over the past 28 years. During my middle and high school years, you’d always come to my concerts and performances even when my dad rarely did. I still remember every graduation, you’d come to see me play in the band even though we were only playing one or two songs the entire time.
You taught me a lot in regards to cleanliness and making sure your house is always presentable. I never truly appreciated that until I started living on my own, and every time I would go into a customer’s house as a delivery driver. I would always remember getting every up morning and vacuuming and making up my bed. As a kid, I had no idea why I had to do this every day.
You also taught me how to drive. When I finally wanted to get a driver’s license, you would let me drive the car home from the beginning of our street. You took me to get my learner’s as well as my driver’s license. You also knew how much I loved Tori, so you would always take me down there when proper arrangements were made. When I had my first accident (rear bender), I cried and cried my way home because I was afraid of what my dad would say–and do. You knew how much it meant for me to see Tori, so we went back to her house in the Suburban.
Dear dad,
You’ve been gone for over two years now. We all still miss you, and we know you are resting in peace and no longer have to deal with pancreatic cancer. I had only hoped you would have said something sooner. Everyone said that you looked good and must have lost a lot of weight. We all thought it was because you stopped drinking alcohol, but it looked like cancer caused you to lose a lot of weight.
It’s funny. Everyone says I look like you, and I love it. What is interesting is people are saying that my mannerisms matches yours. One of my aunts stated that I walk just like you; she even said I gave hugs just like you. When I baked a cake for Aerial and gave her a card, my sister said that’s exactly what you would do. And when I called my sister up to wish her Happy Birthday, she said that’s what you would have done.
Everyone is doing just fine dad. Aerial and Amber are getting sooo big now. Amber is 9 years old, and Aerial is 13. I am going to end this letter, but do know we still miss you and love you. We’re glad you’re in a better place now.
