A reflection…
In reading the response to my last entry, the notes left by my faves, liz’s entry and notes left on her diary, that made me think about what it means to be a true friend.
Liz and I went through a lot together. Let me restate me, I put her through a lot of misery earlier in the year. I kept throwing the past in her face, but she never did the same. She could have told me to get lost, but she never did. She did block me a few times, but we opened up communication again.
Every relationship, be it between friends, lovers, family members, teachers-students, co-workers, employer-employee, will have it’s ups and downs. The period between March-July was our period of down. Also in every relationship, those who want to work things out can turn a negative situation into a positive one. I told Liz that I would change and make things work. She took my word for it and look where we are now.
Another good friend of mine and I fought two times during my Senior year. She completely blocked me from her contact list and ignored me at school. We were in band together, so whenever her mom came to pick her up, I’d say, “Elaine, your mom is here”. Eventually, we started talking again and everything worked out for the better.
Just recently, Beth’s b/f Vlad blocked me from her in everyway possible because I offended her. I wanted to tell her I was sorry but couldn’t. That’s an example of someone who didn’t want to make things better.
We all encounter problems in our relationships with various people. There are times when we could care less how the relationship works out; other times we will try any and everything to win that person’s trust back (like how I did with Liz). True friends will be there for one another and will forgive each other no matter what. It’s an awesome feeling to know you have people who love you unconditionally and will always be by your side.
There’s another thing I wanted to address. The Internet.
“…and hey i’ve always believed that the internet fucks with your life. it does.”
This are excerpts from one of Beth’s entries. Everyone will experience different things when it comes to the internet. Some people, like Beth, will feel that the internet is a horrible place. Others love the internet because they can meet people through places like OD and get to know more about where that person lives.
“…i’m going out tomorrow and making new friends at school, instead of typing to people who can only be there when they want to be, typing away. computer geeks.”
Once again, different people experience different things. Some people hate the people at their school because they are nothing but backstabbers and want nothing to do with you (ironically, Beth was in this situation just last year. The other ironic thing is that Beth has a friend who’s like a sister. She lives in Kansas. Strange eh?) Others have wonderful friends at school and on the internet who do care about them.
I have met many wonderful people from the various sites on the internet: OD/FOD, highschoolclub.com, and chatrooms. There are many people I care about whom I met online and there are those I wish I could meet offline. What I wrote here is just my opinion. Feel free to comment or argue against what I wrote.
i think i totally agree with you my family sometimes thinks that the internet is a horrible place and that someone is going to come and kidnap me even if i just say hi…ive met so many great people off the internet i never want to change anything that has happened over the years 🙂 talk to you later Joce

I see to problem forming bonds with people online. I have so many online friends that I wish could be friends that were around all the time. I just hate when they disappear and never speak to you again.
