The Insurance Man
“Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but anyone can start today and make a new ending.” ~Maria Robinson
Something happened yesterday that made me feel really good. I’m not sure what to make of it, but it really made me smile. Right after it happened, I had to call my best friend Julie to see if she would come down and do this huge favor for me.
Yesterday I went to my insurance office to pay my auto insurance. I’ve been at the insurance office a lot this year. I had to get renter’s insurance for my apartment and there was a small fender bender that I had earlier this year. No one was hurt and there was hardly any damage to my car. Well, every time I go to the insurance office, there is a guy that works there, Jose. Jose is very nice and every time I go in, we talk. His family is from Mexico and since I lived in Mexico, we kind of have a connection.
The last time I was in the office I asked him if he had big plans for the holiday. He said that his family was going to Mexico to visit, but he wasn’t going to be able to go because he didn’t have enough time off of work. I asked what part of Mexico and that’s how we really started to discuss things.
Well, I went to the insurance office yesterday and we started talking about the holiday. I asked him how his went and he told me that his little sister was there with him and that his older sister had a baby that was premature but they got to bring her home on Christmas day. So his Christmas was really nice. He asked me about mine and I told him that I just spent it with family.
He asked me if I had big plans for New Year’s Eve and I said that I didn’t. I don’t have too many friends in this city, so I was thinking of going back to Uni town. I told him how I work with a bunch of 40 year olds, but I haven’t found many young people to hang out with in this city. He told me that a friend of his was spinning Saturday night at a pub downtown. His friend spins salsa, merengue, reggaeton and a lot of other music. He asked me if I knew what reggaeton was, and I started listing off artists like Daddy Yankee, Don Omar, Tito (El Bambino) and he seemed a little surprised. He told me that him and his friends would get there between 10 and 11.
As I left the office I had this huge smile on my face. I got in my car and searched for my cell phone to call Julie and tell her everything and tell her that she needed to drive down for Saturday night and go out with me. I got her voicemail, so I left a message.
Julie and I ended up talking last night, but I’m not sure if she is going to come down. Julie’s mom was in a bad car wreck this week and she broke her wrist real bad. Julie has had a really tough week at work as well, so I’m not sure if she will come. She told me she was going to think about it and call me today to let me know if she would come down tonight. It would be really cool if she did, she hasn’t come to my town since I moved here. However, I understand and I told her that she didn’t need to feel pressured or anything.
However, if she doesn’t come down, I don’t know if I’ll go. I’m all about doing things by myself, but I don’t know if I want to meet up with this guy and his friends all by myself. I don’t want him to think that I’m this girl with no friends and I don’t want him to feel obligated to hang out with me. I just don’t know what I’m going to do.
Whatever you decide to do I’m hoping you have a good weekend to end up the year with. This guy sounds interesting for sure, be careful and have a good weekend, take care,
