The Beginning Of A Final Semester
“Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend to them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster and do with no thought of any reward. Your life will never be the same again.” ~Og Mandino
Classes started on Friday, and I think classes are going to be very interesting this semester. I’m taking really fun classes. The nerd in me is very happy because two of the three classes are literature classes. I’m taking The Writings of C.S. Lewis, Recent Popular Literature, Spanish Phonetics, and Fiction Writing. I’ve never read any of Lewis’ work, but I’m excited to start. The professors for all my classes seem really nice and I’m quite excited.
Friday I had to go to a party that K was hosting. It’s been a while since I have been to a party that K has thrown, but I remember why I’m not a big fan of them. I had conned Harvey into coming to the party with me, but he wanted to loosen up a bit before we went. So we decided to go to a bar down on the Avenue and met up with some of his mates. Harvey had a Kir Royale (I love those), I had a cup of tea and his mates had a variety of drinks. I had never met these guys before, but they were all really nice and really personable. I was
quite taken with one of them.
After hanging out with them for about an hour, it was eleven so we went to K’s party. K and I were friends my first year in Uni. Her ex-boyfriend (G-man) and I went to high school together. So we all hung out a lot together our first year in Uni, along with Quiggley and Kenya. Well, I knew those cats were going to be at the party, but I knew I wouldn’t know any of the others at the party, hence I made Harvey come with.
Well, it’s a good thing Harvey came with because there were about 35 people at the gathering and I only knew K, Quiggley and his best friend who he brought along. G-man and Kenya hadn’t shown up. I hate crowds and groups of people that I don’t know, so this party was not my idea of a good time. Harvey and I stayed for about an hour. Kenya showed up about 5 minutes before we left. It was good to see him and I told him that he was invited to come out for my birthday, which is coming up soon. It was good to see him, he is a fantastic guy.
I didn’t know that the party was a theme party and needless to say, Harvey and I were not dressed for the occasion. It was a pants optional party, with a tropical theme. So everyone was wearing shorts, skirts, bikini tops, and sarongs. By the time we left, K was running around in her bikini top and her pantaloons (thus, pants optional). Harvey and I decided to leave before the dressing rule was strongly enforced.
It’s weird seeing Quiggley. There is no longer a physical attraction to him, and the mental one is gone as well. He is a nice, smart guy; however, his interests are too extreme for me. I think this is good, but seeing him at parties is always weird because we can never talk to one another. It’s not like there is much to talk about because our interests are so different, but I just feel awkward. Oh well, it’s funny how friendships come and go.
Saturday my parents came up and took Darry, Dulce, and I out to lunch. We went to the barbecue joint on the Avenue. It was so yummy. Then we ran some errands as a family and just spent some quality time together. Then they drove home.
After that, I drove to the city to the north and did some shopping. Nothing too exciting and the crowds were atrocious. I hate crowds. Was suppose to call Gina yesterday, but I took a nap and then went to work. She didn’t call, so she can’t be too upset. I feel like such a bad friend with her, but I am having the hardest time getting excited to see her. Oh well, hopefully it will work itself out soon.
Started my “New Me” thing today. Things that I need to do to make myself better. Like brushing and flossing before I go to bed at night, working out on the weekdays, and things like that. It is going well so far and I have it all written out, so I just cross it off as I do it. Hopefully it continues.
Henrik, my friend who has the brain masses had surgery on Friday. The doctors removed the masses and discovered that they are malignant. It is a type of cancer that has a quick regrowth rate, so they are starting a schedule of chemotherapy and radiation. I’m worried about him. Hopefully the mixture of surgery, radiation and chemotherapy help and get the situation taken care of.
What are you studying? The classes sound interesting! *random*

Lewis’s writings are generally regarded as some of the best apologetics and philosophy in the last fifty years. If you like literature, you’ll have a great time with his work. He’s one of my favorites. -Ms. Monday (not signed in)

I took a class in the writings of C.S. Lewis when I was in high school. Some of his stuff went over my head, but it was a good class… 🙂 RYN: It was just awkward all around. I probably could have handled it better, but I guess I wasn’t exactly prepared for it. Oh well.
