Capote, Uggs and Sex

“Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping them up.” ~Jesse Jackson

So I didn’t end up going home this weekend. My parents called on Thursday night and told me that they were actually coming up to visit. They arrived this morning and we went to a department store down on the Avenue. Darry and Dulce were at the doctor’s office and we went shopping while we waited for them. Well, my mother got a promotion at work and is now the director of global something. I can’t remember the whole title, but I’m so proud of her.

So in light of her promotion, she had to purchase some new business suits and my parents said that they would buy me some suits as well for my internship and for my future job. So we were shopping, my father and I were having a grand time taking the piss out of things. My mother tried on different suits, I found two suits that work for me and my father found some slacks for work. Darry and Dulce met up with us and Darry found a suit and Dulce found some clothes as well. It was fun and I am truly blessed, my family is incredible and I am so lucky.

After that we went to lunch at the restaurant Darry and Dulce had their rehearsal dinner at. There was great food, good conversation and excitement for the future family vacation. We are planning a big vacation in celebration of Darry graduating law school and me completing my college degree. It will be the five of us, Darry’s best friend Dusty, Dusty’s brother and his wife, and Dusty and Darry’s friend Dean and his girlfriend. These guys are my other brothers so it will be great fun and we will go back to Mexico. I am quite excited.

Harvey and I are going down to the independent theatre down on the Avenue and watching Capote. I think it looks interesting and I’ve wanted to see it for quite some time. So that’s bound to be fun. Calley’s having a house party tonight, well actually a foosball tournament at her place. I’m invited, but I doubt I will go. I told her I might pop in for a bit, but I don’t think that is going to happen.

Gina called me today and informed me that next weekend we are all going out. I don’t think I had much choice in the matter. She told me that everyone knew. I asked who was going and she informed me that Calley, the guys and she needs to call Charles and tell him. I asked if the guys knew about this because they have a tendency to forget things. She said that they knew and that they were coming. I don’t think they have much choice in the matter either. From the tone Gina used, I doubt they have much choice. She told me to invite Harvey and I said I was going to invite Julie as well. She did the fake happiness for inviting Julie. I’m not sure that she digs Julie, however I find Julie to be fabulous and I hope she can come out with us.

Charles and I were talking last night and we discovered that his job is down the street from my internship. So we are going to get together on Tuesday and meet up for lunch. I’m quite excited to see him, it has been a bit and I think it will be neat to see him dressed up in his work clothes. He looks quite stunning all dressed up.

I was walking on campus Friday and I noticed how many girls on our campus wear Uggs or Ugg knockoffs. I’m talking about the boots that are snow boots that are made of leather or fur. I find them to be completely tacky and obnoxious. I think Kengo put it best when he said that they remind him of Chewbacca from the Star Wars films. The weather here has been quite nice and we haven’t had any snow so there really is no need for them. I think one would only need them if they lived in Siberia, but that is just my opinion. Then the girls that run around in super tiny skirts and wear those make me laugh. That is a horrible fashion statement and I just can’t help but make fun of them. Pate and I have a blast when we see that. Unfortunately there are too many slaves to fashion on our campus, but that makes for great fun.

I was reading random journals on OD today and I came to a realization. Too many young kids are on here talking about having sex and participating in sexual activities. It freaks me out. 14 year-olds should not be having sex at this point in time. I know kids were doing that when I was 14, but 14 year olds aren’t emotionally ready to handle all that comes with sex or the consequences. It is just scary to read how these kids write about this. I think I’m getting old.

I agree about the ugg boots *gag*

Yes, yes, YES! Someone else who hates the Ugg boots! Especially with short skirts. Don’t their legs get cold?

short skirts and uggs are silly looking!! sex and 14 yr old children does not compute. take care,

Glad you had a good time with the family. I am in complete agreement about Uggs are nasty, they don’t really flatter anyone. It makes me sad that kids are so obsessed with sex they miss out on so much. They really need to get to know themselves first.

I bet, like Charles, you look stunning all dressed up in your work clothes.Having seen the trailer for Capote, I’m not sure I could sit through Philip Seymour Hoffman’s voice for 90 minutes, so I’ll look forward to hearing what you think of it.

Suits? I’ve never had a job where I wore a suit…must be nice.

i agree with you about both the Ugg boots and the 14-year-olds and sex. both of them are obnoxious. you are a wise woman for your age. i’ll bet your new suits look fabulous!

I have two suits also — both skirted ones bought just before graduation and all the interviewing I thought I’d be doing. The irony? One of them has been worn exactly once. It isn’t practical for the job I ended up getting, but that one day when I did have to dress up … man, I felt hot, in sexy-corporate-hot-mama kind of way. So much fun!

I should get a suit, but I’m hoping to get a little more skinnified first. Thanks for your note. The dog is better now 🙂

Ugg Boots…I guess I don’t shop enough. ryn: Isomniac Writer is now Mr. Mojo…

I had no idea what Uggs were. Thank you for the knowledge. 🙂 And I agree, 14 year olds should not be getting laid. Some of them get more sex than I do. 😉 LOL. RYN: Dirty snow is awful. It’s the worst part of a snow storm.

I have no clue what “ugg boots” are. Guess I’m way behind the fashion times! Are they the furry top boots? Told you I’m dumb. LOL

We have girls here in L.A. that wear those with shorts. Chewbaca, classic. 😉
