oh, nevermind.
i met a girl the other night,
she stayed outside
to talk to me
when the heat
and the rhythm
on the floor
became unbearable.
she had a tattoo
of a star
on her shoulder-
faded green ink
on white skin.
she said she
never wears sunscreen
because she wants it gone-
she asked me to move to the
desert with her
and live naked
and count the years it takes
for the light
to bleach the star away
completely.
i touched her shoulder
gently,
and she flinched
and said, "i got it a year ago in august,
and sometimes
it still hurts."
*sigh* You write so beautifully.
