get rid of the ocean.

i’m watching your mouth move,
memorizing the way words form on your tongue
(because i haven’t gone there yet.) your teeth are too white
against the black of the trees
and the headlights divide the road into
my side and yours.

the wind is cutting corners
faster than you can, both hands on
the steering wheel, eyes darting
between the edge of the road and
the long way down to the water
and the edge of my slow smile i can’t
keep from spreading
every time i catch you looking.

my goodness. you caught me looking. i enjoyed this for some instinctual reasons… like- i was enticed enough to slow down and ingest each word… there is a lot lurking here, a lot more than is said. like in chemistry when the powder is mixed in liquid and it’s saturated… there is both the liquid and solid form of poetry here- i appreciate it.

I love the title.
