The UPS man bringeth happiness…

A dozen cases of wine from Brunelli Winery in San Pietro in Cariano, Valpolicella arrived this morning.  Six cases each of the 2007 Campo del Titari Riserva di Amarone and the 2007 Campo Inferi Riserva di Amarone.

Amarone is a complex wine, and the production takes a lot of grapes for little wine.  The grapes are allowed to dry for months before they are crushed, losing 40% of their moisture.  The yield of juice is small, but intense.  Fermentation is slow, taking around 40 days, followed by 36 months in oak casks.  After bottling, it is left for 12 months to mature before being released.

The result is a rich, heavy wine that has to be paired with similarly-rich foods.  I enjoy it with roasted duck, guinea fowl or game.

As tempting as it is to open a bottle tonight, these will need to rest for a week or two to recover from their transatlantic journey.

Just super!!!

It was on the news tonight that Venice is 70% under water and they’re evacuating people from the city. Lucky you’re not there now.

Ooohhh I’m really itching to try some Italian wine. Slight aside: do you follow any of Levi Dalton’s work?
