Snowpocalypse…

North Carolina had a little snow overnight, or what is commonly construed here as,  “End of Days.”

It’s such a rare occurrence in the eastern half of the state that everything shuts down.  People have not learned to drive in inclement weather, so they lack the skills to attempt it safely.  Unfortunately, that doesn’t stop them from trying.  As a result, these are the local news headlines of the morning:

Sky 5 is live over Durham’s Roxboro Road where more than a dozen vehicles were involved in an accident on snow-slick roads

2 men die after pickup slides off bridge, overturns in icy Moore County creek

Dozens of vehicles abandoned by drivers on I-40 due to weather

Let’s just say that Bubba can’t drive for shit.  Which is OK, except that Bubba is also too stupid to know enough to stay home and off the roads.

The dogs, however, have been having a great time frolicking in the snow.  This is Rosaline’s first snow, and Arabella, the Black Labrador, demonstrated the finer points of getting silly in winter weather.

Stay safe, it seems many times other drivers make it way more dangerous then the actual weather

Believe me, I stay off the roads. The locals are the greatest hazard by far!

I always worry more about the other drivers than the weather itself. People ought to know how to drive in the mountains, but of course our town is all students and Floridians and everybody has a ginormous SUV and thinks they are impervious to slick roads. We have much less snow here, bizarrely enough, but it’s 10 degrees and windy, and isn’t going to improve for the foreseeable future.

SUVs and trucks give a false sense of security in the South. They don’t understand that the mass actually works against you on ice. Probably why so many are seen in ditches.

Being that I am from a north east State, I tend to laugh at the southern states when they get weather that we shrug our shoulders at. Then I feel b ad because I realize that the southern states are not prepared for this kind of weather. Stay safe and do go out unless you have to.

This made me chuckle 🙂 We lived just north of Charlotte and it’s the same scenario with the threat of the fluffy white stuff.
