It’s terribly rude to linger…
Mother-in-law is still with us, despite having entered an unresponsive state on Monday. Her vitals continue to decline, she has no feeding tube, can’t be more than 90 lbs. at this point – yet she won’t die. If she were a pet, we would give her an injection to move things along without compunction. But in the uncivilized US, that isn’t an option.
I’ve already stated that unless she dies on a weekend, I won’t be there. I have living patients who need attention, and while death has the effect of clearing the calendar of the deceased, the rest of us aren’t so lucky.
Did start the week with a bit of juicy gossip. A long-time acquaintance, early-60’s, had married wife #4 (30+ years his junior) a few years ago. He has an adult daughter from marriage #1 who is older than the bride. For the past year, the couple has been talking about sperm banks, because she wants a baby and he’s shooting blanks from a variety of late-life health issues. He already has the aforementioned adult daughter, and a 10 year old son from marriage #3. I think his lack of enthusiasm for fatherhood at this age – and who can blame him? – didn’t mesh with her desires, and she walked out without a word about a month ago. No word on whether she took the turkey baster with her.
These two stories reinforce the idea I’ve had that life really needs a guidebook. Rules people, we need rules.
@d-_-b Rules, and pragmatic options!
@bedlamhillfarm I appreciate your pragmatism and your occasional lack of political correctness. Let’s be honest here.
@d-_-b Have I EVER been politically correct? If so, it was an oversight on my part.

The guy sounds like an idiot….sorry but that is what comes to mind. These may/December hook ups never seem to work. Sorry about the person who is about to die…I know it’s hard to watch.

Changing the locks would be a good thing if he didn’t pay rent here….But I can maybe get some of that gorillia glue?

at 60 will he really get to raise that child! he will be almost 80 before the child is out of high school and mid 80’s for college. sad for a child to have a parent not able to do all the things a young dad does

Hopefully mother-in-law passes in peace (and soon)
