Friends, how many of us have them?
What is a friend?
A real friend?
So many people call me friend but so few are really my friend…
Its kind of funny, that people here on OD probably no more about who I really am than many of my so-called friends..
Is friendship giving more than you expect to receive and still feeling satisfied?
Is it pleasure in the ability to be totally yourself without masks and put-up airs and false emotions and formality?
I don’t know…but I do know when I have one because I would:
1. do things with my friends that I wouldnt normally do, they have the ability to make me want to experience new things and new places
2. Pay any price to be by their side in times of need…
3. That I wouldn’t be afraid to ask for their help if I was need.
4. I can share my fears, regrets, and tears with them and likewise am happy to listen when they share theirs.
5. I want them to be part of my life and I think of them when I am not with them…i miss them…
6. I laugh when they laugh and I hurt when they hurt
I have about 4 friends like this…
just 4
and they mean much to me
I have a couple of mates who would call me their best mate but I probably wouldn’t say the same for them. I think a real mate is all of the above that you said, but more importantly, it doesn’t matter the distance or how long ago you spoke to them, but when youse see each other again, there’s no awkwardness and youse can pick up from where you left off. I have mates from school whom I haven’t

seen in a year and we live in different states but when we do see each other it’s almost like we were never apart, even if we haven’t spoken for months. Does that make sense?

Just 4? Well, you are a very lucky man if you can name just 4 friends. There are many people that struggle to find “just 1” friend that represents everything you have mentioned in this entry. As you know, the meaning of friendship differs from person to person. Sometimes, those we believe are our friends can in fact prove otherwise. Sometimes, those that we believe are not our friends, can in factprove otherwise. Our own perceptions and our own personal circumstances will determine our own personal reality of the relationships we have with others. I wrote about this very subject in one of my entries dated 15 December 2010. If you have time, have a read. Note the dot points near end of the entry. Enjoy! G~
