This is Halloween
A few weeks before Jen moved away to California she called me and asked if I wanted to spend a month in Spain with her. I didn’t know quite what to make of that. Wouldn’t she or shouldn’t she go with her boyfriend? She was already moving to California without him. None of it made sense. I told her I had to think about it, and after about 5 minutes I called her back and said yes. She was about to move away and if I agreed, I’d see her again. It was a no brainer. I was only working at Penney’s because it was a job I could walk away from, so if I didn’t get the time off, I’d just quit.
Jay and Cathy broke up after months of fighting. I felt bad for him, but their relationship was getting toxic and Jay was miserable because of it.
Jen moved to California, but it didn’t matter. It was official. I was going to Europe with Jen, so she had to come back.
Halloween came around and Jay’s band Clocktower was playing at the local bar. After dressing as Jack The Pumpkin King last year as a couple’s contest with my friend Valerie, I had no intention of wearing Makeup on my face ever again. I went as Luke Skywalker in his ‘black Return of the Jedi’ outfit. It was a cop-out costume but I won a prize. Jay’s friend Daniel, that we called ‘Jesus Dan’ for his long hair made a guest appearance and sang a few songs. I met him and his girlfriend, Sarah, a few weeks back at another of Jay’s shows and they seemed really cool. Tonight they brought Sarah’s sister to the show. She looked very ethnic to Sarah’s blonde hair and I would not have pegged them to be related. It turned out they were half sisters, but I thought ‘if she was half as cool as Sarah, then she was cool.’ She was attractive enough. She was dressed as ‘Poison Ivy’ and filled the costume quite well, I only talked to her a little bit and had her watch my Lightsaber for me as I went off to do a shot or something. I was disappointed that she had left before I got to say goodbye. I hoped I’d get to see her again.
The band didn’t have a large following, but there was a groupie at the bar that showed an interest in Jay’s cousin Dennis. I wasn’t thinking when I told the girl that Dennis could give her a ride home. Dennis vowed revenge. He would get it months later when at the same bar, two sisters, who would be nicknamed the ‘cupcake twins’ sandwiched me at Dennis’ urging when he revealed to them that I was ‘available’.
