Road Trip!

I couldn’t wrap my head around how serious Lucinda was about driving across the country.  I told her it would be about 28 hours of driving but she didn’t care. What about her kids? She had a two year old at home… And Eric, her husband, he was okay with this? Nothing was going to deter her.

When I told Lori about it she was just mad. “She’s just going because of the gold.” Well, yeah…  Point being? In reality, Lori was mad because after all these years of knowing me, I never invited her on the family vacation. Lori had heard the stories for years and how much fun these vacations were and although technically Lucinda invited herself, she was going to be going to one. Lori also stopped just short of claiming Lucinda and I would sleep together on this trip, the idea of the two of them being ‘swingers’ still not completely being removed from the picture.

Meanwhile, I was still getting over the shock that Jen suddenly married her boyfriend the weekend after I told her about Rachel. Did my telling her that seal the deal, or was in unrelated? If she was planning that, why didn’t she tell me when we hung out several days earlier? I never second guessed myself more… Was Rachel worth it? Of course she was currently being cold to me in that hot-cold relationship we were in (if you could even call it a relationship). I hated liking her, and now I resented that I lost Jen for a possibly related reason. Not knowing was the worst. Because of all this, I thought maybe I needed to just get away for a bit and clear my head.

I called my parents and told them that my friend and I were going to come last minute after all. My parents were just happy to have me there.

Once I realized I was actually going I needed to make plans. I had Claudia stop by to feed my guinea pigs while I was gone. We were going to leave on Friday, spend Saturday night at my brother’s place in Rochester. and follow them to Vermont the following morning. Because we were so close, I figured we’d stop at Niagra Falls on the way. I even sent an E-mail to Miss Elaine to find out if she was close to Niagra Falls on the Canadian side as I knew she lived on the Eastern Side of Canada. It turned out that she did not, but it was worth a shot. I really wanted to meet her.

On Friday morning, July 1st, I drove to where Eric worked. Lucinda was meeting me there with their huge family van. I gave Eric the keys to my Jeep so he had a car for the week and I drove off with his wife and his van for our Cross Country adventure. The whole transfer felt awkward and I was just glad it was behind us.
