Parties II

Later on during the summer, I hosted a huge Outdoor BBQ “festival” at a nearby state park. What inspired me to do that was beyond me, but I did. I forked out over $100 in food to host a party in a park for no reason other than I bought a yearly pass with my car and could get into the park for free. Because Dan was incapacitated with his cast, we made him sit in a lawn chair and cook the burgers and dogs on the grill for everyone while the rest of us played Ultimate Frisbee and softball.

One night in early Fall, the starter in my car went out. A friend of ours was having a dorm party at Hofstra University that night. Because my car was incapacitated I wasn’t going to be driving, so I took advantage of it.

Denver and I, as a favor to one of the guys who was dorming here that was dating her, had brought a girl named Kelly and her friend to this party. I didn’t know how old they were, but knew they weren’t of drinking age. The evening started with us going to the local Liquor store. I bought a bottle of Malibu Rum. I wasn’t a beer drinker, so this was a good substitute. We arrived at the building on campus, and as we tried getting through the security post in the foyer, Kelly dropped her ‘40’ right onto the pavement. ‘This is going to be a great start to an evening that will end in handcuffs’, I thought to myself as I handed over my license to the guard. (It is required that they hold them for the duration you are there.) Being the only one of our group over 21, I would be responsible, I’m sure. Astonishingly enough, we all got through. We had two friends in the same building and would switch off which rooms we hung out at. The party started off really fun, but for anyone who has had Malibu Rum, you know that the bottle is heavier than most and can make you misjudge how much you actually drank.

I remember flirting with Kelly’s friend, Naja, until Denver leaned over to tell me she was only 15, in which, according to reports afterwards, made me freeze up in mid-conversation with her. She was very pretty and looked much older than 15. 15 year olds should not have boobs that size. Anyway, she took to my sudden treating of her like a leper in stride, and we were actually quite friendly in subsequent meetings.

After drinking quite a bit of the, we moved from Don’s room to Jay’s girlfriend Cathy’s room, up a floor to Todd’s room. I knew him, but not extremely well. He had shown up at my house during my 4th of July party and with a friend of his named Mark set fire to my garbage can lid under a tree in my back yard. By now I was pretty gone.

Rumor had it that Denver’s ex-girlfriend Kerry (Ed. Note: see 9/12/11) lived in this building as well, but when someone mentioned this fact aloud, it sent me into a huge tangent about how she hated me and how there was something wrong with her and… in the middle of my tirade Denver sitting opposite of me was making all sorts of gestures to try and silence me.

“Oh, Kerry. That girl hates me and I don’t know what her… problem… is… and she’s right behind me, isn’t she?”  Denver just puts his head down and I turn around to see her staring at me as I just say “Hiiiiiiiiiiiiii”.  That bridge was burned and luckily for me, I never stumbled upon Kerry road again since.

Within the hour I was sitting on the couch all but passed out. Everyone else was going to relocate back to another room. From what I was told, when Denver and George tried to move me I made an unpleasant sound. So being the responsible people they were, they left me  on the couch and fled ASAP. It was at that time Todd gave me the nickname ‘Kerry, the Human-Puke-Shooting-Bitch’ and got sick all over myself, his couch and pretty much everywhere. The fact that it kept coming caused him and a few of his friends to just toss me in the showers. When George came and found me and woke me up, I was wearing a new shirt and shorts and in the rooftop common room with a blanket which is where I apparently spent the night.

That day, hung over, I changed the starter in my car, taking turns crawling under my car and screwing in some bolts and crawling out to throw up. I’d like to say a lesson was learned, but no, I just remember it and made the same mistake again from time to time.
