Adventures in Automobiling 3
Our reckless and irresponsible games of ‘Car Tag’ came to an end when Jay, Alan, and I were in Dan’s car and were playing against George, Jean and Sean in Mark’s Ford Bronco II.
The rules were simple. Someone from your car needs to physically tag the other person’s vehicle. It was our turn to tag Mark’s truck. We had chased him into an Elementary School parking lot that had an entrance on both the East and West sides. The East side exit was a little used side street off of a main road and we knew he was in that area. Are plan was to have Alan jump out and hide in the bushes. We would double around and chase Mark back into the parking lot and towards Alan who would be waiting for him.
We pulled around to the main road and just before we got to the block Dan noticed a police officer coming from the other direction towards us. Unfortunately, Mark had turned his truck around and was coming to the cross street at the same time. Anticipating what Mark would try to do, Dan sped up to stop Mark from blowing his stop sign right in front of the cop. Instead, Mark veered up onto the curb and around Dan’s car cutting off both us and the cop coming from the other direction as he zipped across the street. Mark, thinking Dan was following him, turned off his headlights and sped up.
We pulled into a business parking lot debating our next action. Mark was screwed. After blowing a stop sign, George noticed that it was not Dan following them. They tried to drive casual, but as soon as they got back to the main street he was pulled over. We pulled up to a gas station about a block away to watch. The cop pulled Mark out of the truck and was screaming at him. Dan and Jay decided to walk by on the opposite side of the street. I didn’t want to press our luck and stayed by the car.
Alan, however, walked by on the same side of the street. When got to the truck, he slammed both hands on the hood of the car and yelled “How’s it going guys!” letting them clearly see that they were being ‘tagged’. The passengers were trying to shoo Alan away, because Mark had revealed he was just ‘fooling around’ with some friends and the cops were on the lookout for us.
Mark was slammed with six tickets and forced to take driver’s education in order to keep his license. Good times!
