Monday 5/13/24

10:13a.m. I was very upset this morning. An aide knocked my phone over while getting me dressed. All she had to do was plug in the receiver but she would not do it. I could only f done it myself but couldn’t reach the cord. They would not listen when I tried to explain what needed done. The fact that I couldn’t make myself understood made me mad and frustrated.

They kept insisting I needed a new phone. They called maintenance. Fortunately the guy came right away to fix it. He just plugged it in.

On a lighter note I slept well with no disturbing dreams. I had two biscuits and a banana for breakfast. I didn’t eat the scrambled eggs for fear of getting sick. The aides got me dressed and in my wheelchair in time for the coffee social. I had one cup then made. Y way back to my room.

I’m ok now. The phone was fixed when I got back. That landline is very important to me. It is my only link to the outside world. It is how I keep in touch with Chocolatechip. She is all I have and I don’t want to lose contact with her. This is my biggest fear. That’s why I get upset when something happens to my phone.

Everything is fine now.I’m not going to let that little incident wreck my day. I’m going to get lost in my book and have a good time talking with Chocolatechip. Life is good.

12:40p.m. I had my lunch in the Fiesta Room. I ate a beef and macaroni casserole,green beans, a dinner roll and jello for dessert. It was ok and so far it didn’t make make me sick. I made my way back to my room after I ate.

I called Chocolatechip . She said she has been trying to reach me. I guess I have a new phone number because she got someone else. If I do they didn’t tell me. Anyways she was busy so I will have to call her back.

2:21p.m. The afternoon is going great. I didn’t get sick from lunch. I had a long conversation with Chocolatechip. We talked for almost an hour about different subjects. I had a wonderful time talking with her. Then found out some great news. I have at least a $50 Amazon gift card coming to me. The nursing home is going Walmart shopping Wednesday. They will stop at !Rogers or Dollar General to pick one up for me.

I have that sucker spent already. I’m buying three books this month. Stephen King is coming out with a new collection of short stories You Like it Darker. This is released on the 21st for $14.99. Then John Grisham is coming out with a book on the 28th Camino Ghosts for $14.99. Then I want to buy an Unfinished Love Story for $16.97. These books will cost a total of $46.97. I’m back in business.

6:00p.m. I’ve been talking with Chocolatechip before supper. We talked about different subjects. Specifically we talked about the women in Misery Towers. For some reason they all snub her and give her a hard time when she goes outside. I keep telling Chocolatechip she is a class act while they are miserable bitches. They don’t call it Misery Towers for nothing.

We talked until they served supper. I had Salisbury steak, scalloped potatoes and California blended vegetables. It was pretty good and I ate it all. The coffee was even hot. For dessert I had a piece of Angel food cake. It didn’t make me sick or bloated.

I talked with Chocolatechip after I ate. We were talking about Eddie the Mooch. She is done cooking for him. I said good. The last straw came when he didn’t return a pie pan after she cooked dinner for him. I said I’ll bet you never get it back. She said Eddie would have returned it or bought a replacement. I hope she means it this time.

I’ve been reading Gettysburg by Stephen W Sears in addition to talking with Chocolateschip . I started reading Chapter 9 over again. This chapter begins with the end of the July 1,1863 fighting. As I said before the Gods of War smiled on the Confederates that day. The Army of Northern Virginia drove the Union forces through Gettysburg after hard fighting and suffering heavy losses. But the Army of the Potomac was not yet defeated. This is a very interesting chapter.

I hope to read two chapters tonight. I might get her done. I’m wound up . I had such a good day I hate to see it end. I am fortified with plenty of coffee so I’m hoping that will keep me going until 11:00 tonight. Life is good.

8:01p.m. I’m still in my wheelchair. I went to the Coral Room and read for a while I’m pleased with myself. I finished Chapter 9 in Gettysburg. I read about both sides plans for the July 2 battle. This was a very interesting chapter. I hope to finish Chapter 10 tonight but it is a very long chapter. But I’ll give her a good try.

I’m back in my room . I was just asked if I was ready for bed. I have been sitting in my wheelchair for eleven hours. I desperately need changed. So I can said yes. But asshole is on duty. He said gimme a couple minutes. This means I’ll be in my wheelchair for at least a couple more hours. Oh well I can spend my time reading. Life is good!

8:49p.m. I’ll be double damned. Asshole just put me in bed and he did a good job. I didn’t have to wait all night after all. I’m still going to stay up and read

10:12p.m. I can’t seem to fall asleep tonight. I’m kind of excited about getting that name Amazon gift card. They told me I’ll be getting it Wednesday. In the meantime I will do my best to concentrate on Gettysburg. I’ve been reading Chapter 10. Stephen W Sears was talking about the fight for Little Round Top. I felt I was right there fighting with the Union soldiers. This really is a good book . But I got to keep focused on it.
